About the Team and the Role

The Cloud and Data Platform team at Ather is responsible for the core ecosystem of our smart scooter fleet, specifically managing the Vehicle Data Platform (VDP) to ensure maximum stability and scalability as our data volume grows.

This role is for a foundational Site Reliability Engineer who will take full ownership of our data infrastructure, building robust reliability practices and managing production environments to support Ather's rapid global expansion.

Responsibilities

• Own the production environment by managing alerts, leading incident response, and implementing permanent fixes through RCA.

• Manage the full lifecycle of ClickHouse database clusters, including performance, reliability, and internal scaling.

• Architect and maintain core infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure-as-Code principles with Terraform.

• Execute critical maintenance and upgrades for Kubernetes, Cloud SQL, and data workloads such as Kafka.

• Support Databricks platform infrastructure and partner with Data Engineering to ensure efficient ingestion pipelines.

• Enhance system observability by refining monitoring, logging, and tracing to eliminate performance bottlenecks.

• Lead capacity planning and forecasting for cloud workloads to ensure scalability for 6-12 month horizons.

• Drive cloud cost optimization and resource governance by identifying and implementing savings opportunities.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.

• 3 to 6 years of relevant experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Software Engineer with an infrastructure focus.

Must Have Competencies

• Expertise in designing, running, and troubleshooting applications on Kubernetes within production environments.

• Proficiency in software engineering and coding with languages such as Python, Go, or Java for automated solutions.

• Hands-on experience with major cloud providers, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Advanced capability in infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform or Ansible.

Good to have Competencies

• Experience in building and managing robust CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment.

• Familiarity with administering, monitoring, and scaling ClickHouse clusters.

• Knowledge of infrastructure requirements for data platforms like Databricks.

• Proficiency in managing messaging queues such as Kafka and performing Linux network troubleshooting.
