Senior Software Engineer I, Site Reliability

We're looking for a hands-on MongoDB SRE to join our Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team. You'll own the reliability of our MongoDB clusters, work closely with application teams on performance, and help drive automation and observability improvements.

What You'll Do

- Monitor and maintain MongoDB replica sets in production health, performance, capacity, and change management

- Triage slow queries, analyze explain() plans, and recommend index strategies to application teams

- Implement and validate backup/restore procedures; monitor recovery posture against defined RTO/RPO targets

- Respond to database incidents, contribute to postmortems, and follow through on action items

- Build alerting rules, runbooks, and escalation paths for owned clusters

- Write automation scripts and contribute to IaC modules for database configuration

- Own MongoDB observability dashboards, exporters, and custom metrics

- Participate in schema and query design reviews with engineering teams

- Conduct DR drills simulate failovers, node failures, and recovery scenarios

- Mentor junior engineers through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

Must-Have

- 3+ years of hands-on MongoDB experience in production environments

- Working knowledge of replica sets elections, oplog, read/write concerns

- Ability to read and act on explain() output and slow query logs

- MongoDB Associate DBA Certification (or equivalent demonstrated experience)

- Scripting proficiency in Python or Bash

- Comfortable on Linux log analysis, disk/memory/process inspection

- Experience on-call for database infrastructure independently

Good to Have

- Exposure to sharded clusters shard key selection, chunk migrations

- MongoDB Atlas experience

- Kubernetes basics (MongoDB Operator)

- Experience with Redis or OpenSearch in a production environment

- Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Preferred Qualifications

- B.Tech/B.E. in CS or equivalent practical experience

- Background in a high-traffic SaaS or cloud-native company

- MongoDB Professional DBA Certification is a strong plus
