Your team

This role sits within our Security Operations Centre (SOC), a 24/7 function responsible for detecting, investigating, and responding to cybersecurity threats across IG Group's global platforms. The team protects our clients, systems, and data through a combination of human expertise, AI-assisted triage, and security automation.

Your role in the Team's Success

As a Senior Cyber Defence Analyst (L2), you will be a key escalation point for our Level 1 analysts, leading investigations into complex security incidents and ensuring threats are contained and resolved effectively. You will mentor junior analysts, contribute to the continuous improvement of our detection and response capabilities, and play an active role in developing SIEM rules and SOAR automation.

Your work directly strengthens IG Group's security posture by driving incident quality, reducing response times, and helping the SOC evolve toward a more automated and intelligence-led operating model. You will collaborate closely with IT teams, the Incident & Problem Management function, and business stakeholders to ensure security incidents are managed with pace and precision.

What you'll do

• Respond to escalated security incidents, leading investigations and providing technical guidance to L1 analysts, while coaching them to handle cases independently wherever possible.

• Lead post-incident reviews for security incidents, facilitating lessons learnt discussions and identifying opportunities to improve SOC processes and automation.

• Audit security incidents to uphold quality standards across the team, identifying process gaps, automation failures, and areas for detection improvement.

• Contribute to the development of new SIEM detection rules and SOAR playbooks, testing changes in the staging environment and helping to drive SOC innovation.

• Conduct proactive threat hunts and coordinate with the Incident & Problem Management team and wider business units during active incidents.

What you'll need for this role

• 4+ years of proven experience in a SOC or cybersecurity operations environment, with a strong understanding of incident response, threat detection, and containment techniques.

• Hands-on experience with SIEM and SOAR platforms, EDR tools, and security automation — and a willingness to contribute to their ongoing development and improvement.

• Good working knowledge of scripting languages to support automation and detection engineering.

• Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to coach junior analysts while managing your own caseload under pressure.

• A methodical, analytical mindset with a track record of identifying process improvements and delivering measurable outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
