ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with strong backend development expertise and solid AWS cloud services knowledge. You will develop and maintain critical components of our payments platform a scalable, secure, and high-performance system that powers payment operations. This role involves owning technical execution on key initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting junior engineers' growth through mentorship and technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

Development & Architecture

• Develop scalable backend services using Python and AWS-native technologies (Lambdas, Step Functions) and Confluent Kafka messaging
• Design and build secure, performant REST APIs and asynchronous message-based microservices
• Contribute to architectural discussions and technical design decisions for platform components
• Implement provider integrations following established patterns and best practices

Development & Quality

• Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) and maintain high test coverage on assigned modules
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following team standards and conventions
• Build payment processing systems with attention to reliability, performance, and security
• Participate in code reviews and share knowledge with junior engineers

AWS & Infrastructure

• Deploy and manage applications using AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway, CloudWatch)
• Work with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations
• Configure Event Source Mappings (ESMs) and event-driven architectures
• Support CI/CD pipeline improvements and best practices

Operations & Troubleshooting

• Contribute to monitoring and observability using AWS CloudWatch
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in development, testing, and production environments
• Participate in on-call rotations and support production systems
• Maintain technical documentation for assigned systems and components

Collaboration & Mentoring

• Collaborate with product managers, security engineers, and QA teams
• Mentor junior engineers on technical practices, code quality, and system design
• Ensure junior engineers understand their stories and have implemented them as intended based on collaboration with the project stakeholders
• Participate in agile planning and retrospectives
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the team

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• 4-6 years of professional backend development experience
• 1-2 years in a senior or IC (individual contributor) technical role
• Experience working with cross-functional, distributed teams

Python & Backend Development

• Strong proficiency in Python for backend service development
• Solid expertise designing and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices
• Good understanding of async, message-based architectures and event-driven patterns
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts (eventual consistency, idempotency)

AWS Cloud Services

• Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda and Step Functions
• Solid experience with AWS databases (DynamoDB, DocumentDB)
• Proficiency with AWS event-driven services (SQS/SNS, EventBridge)
• Experience with API Gateway and CloudWatch

Infrastructure & DevOps

• Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
• Experience deploying applications on AWS

Fundamental Skills

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good understanding of security, scalability, and performance considerations
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Knowledge of REST API design conventions

DESIRABLE SKILLS

• AWS Services: S3, Transfer Family, API Gateway optimization
