M.S. Bodhanwalla & Co. is a prominent full-service law firm headquartered in Mumbai, known for its vast experience in handling complex civil litigation, disputes, and real estate transactions. The firm has had a history of about five decades as part of the city's legal landscape, specialising in litigation and arbitration, media and entertainment law (transactional and litigation), real estate and conveyancing, family law (including inter-jurisdictional conflict-of-laws divorce and child custody across borders). The firm's client base comprises of leading public sector undertakings, media and advertising agencies, production houses, besides a thriving private client practice. The firm primarily handles matters before the Supreme Court, Bombay High Court, DRT, DRAT, and NCLT besides the Industrial Court, Small Causes Court and the Mumbai City Civil Court.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site position for a Senior Associate at our Mumbai office. The ideal candidate must possess 5-7 years' PQE from boutique/mid-tier and/or top tier law firms dealing in similar practice areas. The Senior Associate will be expected to collaborate with the entire team on matters across the board, including playing a crucial bridge role between the Associates and the Partners. The Senior Associate will be responsible for handling a variety of legal matters across the practice areas of litigation, arbitration and disputes, media and entertainment law, insolvency law, family law, real estate and conveyancing and labour law, to name just a few. The firm does not follow a compartmentalised approach and the incoming candidate will be expected to participate in as many matters as he/she can take on. The firm permits competent associates to appear personally before forums such as the City Civil Court and the Bombay High Court (upon demonstrable competence displayed and evaluated by the firm).

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5-7 years' PQE in the firm's areas of practice, with demonstrable prior work experience, preferably within a setup similar to that of the firm such as from a boutique/mid-tier and/or top tier.
• The candidate must possess a 5 year integrated law degree from one of the top-tier non-NLU's such as Government Law College, Mumbai, ILS Law College, Pune or one of the top-tier NLU's including Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai. Candidates from any of the private schools such as Jindal Global Law School are requested to kindly refrain from applying since the firm is looking at reviewing candidates from its traditional recruitment catchment.
• A self starter who has his/her foundational basics in place. Basic awareness of court practices and procedures, a working knowledge of filing and departmental formalities are significant factors
• An inherent hunger to learn in a conducive environment and an ability to seamlessly collaborate with team members such as Associates, Managing Counsel and Partners.
• A working knowledge of Marathi will be a huge plus. Fluency in Marathi will be a significant bonus.
• An overall keenness to take on matters of a vast and varying nature such as media and entertainment law, real estate and conveyancing, litigation, disputes and arbitration, conflict-of-laws in the family law context, to name but a few.
• An ability to assimilate swiftly into the firm's culture and style of working and adapt to ever evolving timelines.
