This role is part of Alcon's Information Technology function, a team that delivers cutting-edge technology solutions to Alcon associates and customers to help our people and the world see brilliantly.The Principal I, Software Engineering (Science/Tech/Engineering Path), is primarily responsible for leading the design and development of software solutions, leveraging advanced technical expertise to influence engineering teams and the broader organization.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of high-performance Java applications using Spring frameworks. 

• Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions. 
• Translate UI/UX designs into high-quality, responsive web interfaces.

• Guide and mentor a team of developers, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices. 

• Drive code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. 

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack. 

• Promote a culture of openness, innovation, and continuous learning within the team. 

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications: 

• 7–8 years of hands-on experience in Java development. 

• Proven experience in leading teams and managing delivery. 

• Ability to balance hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities

• Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and related frameworks. 
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and design patterns. 
• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+).
• Experience with modern frameworks/libraries such as Angular / React.
• Good understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development

• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). 

• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and ORM tools (e.g., Hibernate). 

• Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools. 

• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills. 

• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
