Work youll do

We need a technology leader who is an accomplished software development professional and has architected, built, deployed, maintained and tuned high performing production systems; who strongly believes that performance is not an after-thought; that systems must be designed with performance in mind from ground up.

Our mission is to deliver services that matter and achieve and sustain business agility and happy users.  You will be at the heart of fullfilling our mission by bringing your performance engineering experience to the table to own and lead the vision and implementation of engineering performance end to end.  You will drive continuous improvement and the envisioning of our performance engineer capabilities from inception through operations, along with gaining realtime information on the global performance of our applications to provide insights and make decisions. 

You will be part of our technology organization and have a great opportunity to work across various parts of Deloitte, including our development teams, project management office, and other stakeholders to drive performance engineering upstream in the application lifecycle and deeper into our production environment around the world.  

In addition to leadership and management experience, technical expertise is critical in order to imagine and drive performance improvements across our database, networking, and infrastructure teams, and to partner with our application teams, implementing more performant applications for our internal solutions and business solutions 

You should be someone excited with the challenge of shaping a future organization focused on performance engineering and passionate about working with our development and reliability engineering teams to drive an engineering mindset about performance across the entire application lifecycle.

Role Specific Responsibilities

           Prevent performance problems before they occur

           Envision, lead and establish a strong performance engineering capability

           Lead, build, and grow a diverse team across geographies toward providing performance engineering capabilities

           Perform performance analysis of the architecture and inspections of the deployment and code

           Provide critical direction on our global architecture

           Create performance models to forecast new application performance and identify risks early on

           Provide insights and recommendations on performance for specific applications and our global architecture

           Partner with our application development to drive a performance engineering mindset and results

           Establish performance engineering process, tools, and organization

           Build and procure tools to help others identify performance bottlenecks at the micro-level

           Shift our operational performance monitors to be more proactive and provide Realtime information about the end user performance of our applications on a global basis

           Explore and implement ideas to improve end user performance on a global basis

           Engage and interact with vendors to bring in world-class performance tools and capabilities

           Create clear presentations and communication to stakeholders that highlight the impact of the issues and solutions to performance related issues. Communicate the state of performance to prioritize technical debt & improvements on technology team roadmaps.   Equally capable at presenting analyses and recommendations to leadership or discussing the technical  merits of solutions with engineers and architects.

           Characterize end-to-end system performance from application to infrastructure to hardware

           Model and analyse user loads to drive system architecture and design direction

           Lead, own, model and drive DevOps culture and behaviours

           Practice and enforce Agile and Scrum methodologies

Qualifications

        BS or higher degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field

        Very strong experience in performance diagnostics, capacity planning, and architecting for performance.

        Strong experience in application, infrastructure, and database architecture analysis

        Has architected, designed, built, tested, deployed high performing, multi-threaded, highly concurrent solutions in production on Microsoft and/or Java platforms.

        Prepare project plans that account for performance engineering activities and ensure execution to those plans

        Has dealt with systems that were NOT built with performance in mind and had to rescue project by recommending strategic and surgical changes to make such system production worthy.

        Deep experience with developer tools such as ANTS Memory and CPU Profiler, RedGate, SQL Profiler, Visual Studio Performance tools or other industry standard CPU, Memory, Network, Database profiling tools.

        Experience with distributed cache technologies such as Redis, Memcache etc. Must understand caching techniques to employ at all layers of application (Browser, Application tier, Database).

        Strong experience in providing recommendations related to enterprise message brokers like Azure Service Bus.

        Strong experience in understanding the quality attributes of cloud hosted applications and using cloud native monitoring solutions (Azure Monitoring, Amazon CloudWatch/Application Insights, GCP Monitoring) along with other APM platforms to troubleshoot and identify the root causes.

        Strong experience in microservices.

        Strong experience with load generation, bottleneck analysis, modelling tools and statistical analysis, including queuing theory.

        Strong experience with memory/storage systems, multi-threaded and concurrent systems, globally distributed and high transaction architectures, and virtual environments as related to performance

        Experience with low-level performance analysis in Microsoft Technologies, infrastructure and hardware.

        Strong experience with different types of performance testing and their purposes

        Experience in root case performance analysis and using appropriate tools.

        Firm sense of accountability, ownership for end-to-end project lifecycle with solid project management and communication skills.
