Job Description

Job Title: Network Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Shift Timing: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM (Friday to Tuesday)


Overall purpose of the job:

  • The Core Network Infrastructure team is responsible for all aspects of the ever-changing core network infrastructure environment.
  • This team is responsible for carrying out core network projects, predominantly based on high-capacity connectivity, MPLS, and Optical Transmission network elements, as well as providing advanced support to the engineering operations team.
  • The role is based offshore, and the working hours are aligned to overlap to a certain extent with normal UK working hours for cross-team communications, as well as to cover out-of-hours maintenance windows for network changes that cannot be executed during normal hours.


Key responsibilities for this job:

  • To deliver assigned projects that may involve one or more of the following activities
  • Network change-related planning and remote execution activities
  • Liaising with internal and external supplier teams as required
  • Carry out software upgrades on IP and Optical network elements during out-of-hours maintenance windows
  • Remotely oversee hardware upgrades on IP and Optical network elements
  • Remotely support changes/upgrades on the Fixed Networks involving PON topologies
  • To be available for out-of-hours work as required
  • Any other fair and reasonable task or duty assigned to you by your manager, or other senior client staff member


Knowledge and experience required:

  • Experience working within a Service Provider environment on the core network architecture
  • Experience working within a multi-vendor network environment - Cisco and Nokia are relevant
  • Solid foundational networking principles, with a desire to learn further
  • Advanced knowledge of routers, switches, and network security concepts
  • Experience and good knowledge of Ethernet, IP/MPLS protocols, and operation
  • Advanced skill in understanding and configuring routing protocol operation - BGP, OSPF, IS-IS
  • Advanced IP Addressing and Subnetting knowledge IPv4 & IPv6
  • Advanced skill in understanding and configuring of switching technologies Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, Dot1q, QinQ.
  • A good knowledge of other network principles, such as DNS, MX Records
  • Other technologies VPLS (E-Lan), E-Line, L3 VPN, EVPN, DSL, VRRP
  • Excellent communication skills


Knowledge and experience with the following vendors would be advantageous:

  • Nokia 7450 & 7750
  • F5 BIG-IP
  • FortiGate
