Role Overview

At the Research, Technology and Innovation Centre (RTIC) of Thermax Limited we are seeking a highly experienced Engineering Leader to drive the design, development, and scale-up of cutting-edge technologies in the energy transition and decarbonization space. The RTIC is a birthplace of many indigenous technologies which forms the backbone of many Thermax businesses. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in model-based design , 3D modelling , and manufacturing processes , with proven success leading multidisciplinary teams in proof-of-concept, pilot-scale and full-scale engineering projects .

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering design and development across multiple phasesfrom concept and simulation to pilot deployment and large-scale commercialization.
  • Work closely with R&D teams and provide guidance in improving initial design for manufacturable and scalable productization using modern engineering methodologies
  • Champion model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and digital twin approaches to optimize product design, system integration, and performance.
  • Oversee 3D modelling, simulation, and CAD design activities, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and alignment with sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, manufacturing, and operations teams in different Thermax businesses to translate designs into scalable production solutions.
  • Manage a team of mechanical, process, and systems engineers; foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Establish and maintain design standards, validation protocols, and documentation in compliance with industry and safety regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tools, and workflows to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Interface with cross-functional stakeholders, including R&D, business development, and project management, to ensure aligned project execution.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, budget management, and technology roadmaps for long-term decarbonization initiatives.
  • Oversee the vendor technical offer, ensuring accurate and compliant Technical Evaluation Report.
  • Provide overall review and final approval of design basis documents, engineering calculations, drawings and datasheets.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes for process safety, pressure equipment, fire and electrical standards (ASME,API,NFPA,IEC,IS,PESO and etc)
  • Drive DFMA and serviceability principles to optimise manufacturability, assembly and life cycle maintenance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive engineering experience , including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven track record in model-based design (MATLAB/Simulink, SysML, or equivalent) and 3D modeling (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) .
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, system integration, and product scale-up from pilot to commercial deployment.
  • Strong background in energy systems, clean technologies, renewable fuels, or carbon capture projects.
  • Proven Experience in leading and approving FMEA and HAZOP studies for complex engineering system.
  • Expert level understanding of strength of materials and Engineering mechanics for sound engineering decision
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex technical programs under strict timelines.

Preferred Attributes

  • Familiarity with lifecycle analysis and sustainability metrics.
  • Experience implementing automation, data analytics, or AI tools in design workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in fast-paced, innovation-driven environments.
  • Deep understanding of interfaces between discipline (Process-Mechanical-Civil-Electrical- Instrumentation and Control system)
