Job Summary:

A Civil Engineer specializing in Land Development & Drainage is responsible for

planning, designing, and overseeing the transformation of raw land into functional

sites for residential, commercial, industrial, or mixed-use purposes. This role

integrates site layout, grading, utility design, and stormwater management to ensure

safe, sustainable, and regulatory-compliant development.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Assessment & Feasibility:

Evaluate land for development potential, considering zoning, topography, soil

conditions, and environmental constraints. Determine if the site can support the

proposed development

Planning & Design:

Prepare and review construction documents, including grading, utility layouts,

street design, and drainage/detention/water quality plans. Develop site plans that

integrate roads, utilities, and stormwater management systems .

Drainage System Design:

Design stormwater management and drainage systems to ensure safe water flow,

prevent flooding, and comply with environmental standards. This includes sizing

and specifying detention basins, culverts, and storm sewers

Permitting & Regulatory Compliance:

Oversee and coordinate the permitting process, ensuring all designs meet local,

state, and federal regulations. Prepare detailed engineering reports, project

proposals, and budget estimates as required for approvals

Project Coordination:

Collaborate with architects, surveyors, contractors, and government agencies.

Present information and recommendations to stakeholders, including city

councils and leadership teams

Construction Oversight:

Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.

Address field issues and provide technical guidance during project execution. Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency in civil engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil

3D).

Strong understanding of land development processes, site grading,

and drainage principles.

Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination with

multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge of permitting procedures and regulatory requirements
