Job Description
Overview:
The School of Film & Television at MIT-ADTU, a National Film Award-winning institution, invites applications for a Assistant Professor level position specializing in Cinematography. The ideal candidate will contribute to academic excellence, innovative research, and industry engagement, mentoring students to excel in professional filmmaking.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Teaching & Curriculum:
- Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Cinematography, Camera Techniques, Lighting, and Visual Storytelling.
- Develop and update course content reflecting current industry practices and emerging technologies.
- Supervise student projects, theses, and internships related to cinematography.
2) Research & Creative Practice:
- Lead active research and creative projects in cinematography, including digital and virtual production techniques.
- Publish research, present at conferences, and contribute to media productions.
- Explore innovative visual storytelling methods and emerging cinematographic technologies.
3) Industry & Community Engagement:
- Collaborate with industry partners, film festivals, and media organizations.
- Participate in academic committees, workshops, and seminars.
- Keep abreast of the latest trends and tools in cinematography and film production.
4) Institutional & Student Development:
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and curriculum enhancement.
- Mentor students and junior faculty.
- Promote the film program through outreach and industry networking.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Cinematography or FTII/SRFTI Cinema Diploma or equivalent.
- Proven professional cinematography experience with a strong portfolio (films, commercials, music videos).
- Prior teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge of camera systems, lighting, color grading, and post-production workflows.
- Familiarity with digital filmmaking, virtual production, and emerging visual techniques.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry recognition or awards.
- Experience with VR, AR, or immersive media.
- Curriculum development and academic administrative experience.
- Publications or presentations in reputable film/media journals or conferences.
