Role Overview

The Human-Centric Design Consultant will collaborate with the architectural design team to embed principles of human anthropology, environmental psychology, and behavioral science into architectural projects. The role ensures that design decisions respond meaningfully to human behaviour, emotional well-being, cultural context, and lived experience, resulting in spaces that are intuitive, inclusive, and deeply human.


Key Responsibilities

1. Research & Precedent Studies

  • Study projects of similar typology that demonstrate strong human-centric outcomes
  • Analyse user behaviour, social interaction, cultural relevance, comfort, and long-term usability
  • Translate findings into clear, design-relevant insights for the project team


2. Human-Centric Design Review

  • Review designs at key stages (concept, schematic, and design development)
  • Identify opportunities to better address human needs, routines, emotions, and behaviours
  • Evaluate designs for inclusivity, privacy, comfort, and cultural alignment


3. Spatial, Material & Sensory Guidance

  • Provide inputs beyond space planning, including:
  • Spatial experience, scale, transitions, and wayfinding
  • Material selections based on tactile comfort, familiarity, and cultural meaning
  • Colour palettes and textures supporting calm, focus, interaction, or energy
  • Light, acoustics, and overall sensory comfort


4. Landscape & External Environment Inputs

  • Advise on landscapes and outdoor spaces that support social interaction, rest, and well-being
  • Recommend human-scaled outdoor elements and nature-based interventions


5. User Behaviour & Occupancy Insights

  • Anticipate how users will occupy, adapt, and evolve spaces over time
  • Identify gaps between design intent and real-world use
  • Suggest strategies for flexibility, adaptability, and long-term relevance


6. Design Narrative & Client Support

  • Assist in articulating the human-centric rationale behind design decisions
  • Contribute to concept narratives, presentations, and client discussions
  • Ground design strategies in research-backed human insights



Qualifications

Any graduate / post graduate in relevant field



Desired Background & Skills

  • Background in Anthropology, Environmental Psychology, Behavioral Science, Human Geography, or related fields
  • Experience collaborating with architects, designers, planners, or built environment professionals
  • Ability to translate research and observation into practical design guidance
  • Strong analytical, observational, and communication skills
