PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Senior Engineering Manager, Data Governance, is an AI first technical leader within EDMA responsible to build the MDM Data Governance capability in India (governance engineering + stewardship operations) by setting enterprise-aligned standards, developing talent, and allocating governance practitioners to squads. The role is solid-line reporting local Sr. Director for day-to-day operations & dotted-line with USHQ Governance COE to implement policies, controls, and consistent governance experiences across the enterprise.


YOUR IMPACT (Job Responsibilities):

  • Build and lead the governance talent bench: role definitions, hiring profiles, onboarding, skills matrix, and capability progression.
  • Allocate resources to squads based on domain criticality and risk; provide surge support for projects, enhancements, and major releases.
  • Define and operationalize MDM governance standards: certification criteria, lineage expectations, access workflows, and data quality rule frameworks.
  • Establish shift-left MDM governance patterns so squads can deliver faster with built-in controls rather than after-the-fact gates.
  • Create reusable playbooks and tooling patterns for stewardship, issue management, access approvals, and audit evidence.
  • Partner with USHQ COE, privacy, and security stakeholders to ensure policy is translated into practical, repeatable technical controls.
  • Leads managers and teams responsible for master data creation and maintenance, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant data outputs.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree with typically 10 years of relevant experience or Master's degree with typically 8 years of relevant experience or typically 14 years of relevant experience without degree.
  • Typically, 3 - 5 years of leadership/people management experience or equivalent experience as the subject matter lead or expert in area of data governance, data quality, stewardship operations, metadata/lineage, or data risk & controls.
  • Strong competency in MDM, metadata/catalog concepts, lineage, data quality engineering, and access governance fundamentals.
  • Proven ability to drive adoption through enablement, coaching, and pragmatic standards (not bureaucracy).
  • Comfort operating in a matrixed organization and influencing delivery without owning day-to-day squad execution.


WORKPLACE LOCATION:

  • Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our office.
  • Work Schedule: This role follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 4 days in-office per week.
