Job Description
Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer
Years of experience: 3-6 yrs.
Location: Pune
Roles and Responsibilities:
- You will own backend reliability across the full product. This role requires strong context-switching, product thinking, and the ability to work across multiple domains.
- Shipping a healthy mix of features, audits, and bug fixes - from quick 30-minute fixes to multi-day changes across multiple services.
- Owning at least one production issue end-to-end: diagnosing the issue, writing a failing test, shipping the fix, and documenting the postmortem.
- Running API audits by identifying slow, flaky, or incorrect endpoints, creating a clear checklist of findings, and either fixing them or handing them off cleanly.
- Testing features with high precision, as if there is no QA team.
- Pushing back when a requirement or specification does not make sense.
- Working agentically with AI tools to improve speed, quality, and engineering output. Expertise in Using AI agents to explore, refactor, and ship code.
- Reviewing AI-generated code with the same rigour as a junior engineers PR. Catching subtle abstraction or logic mistakes introduced by AI.
Must have skills:
- 3-6 years of experience building production backends with Node.js + TypeScript.
- Strong experience with Express.js or NestJS.
- Deep understanding of MongoDB and MySQL, including schema design, indexes, query plans, denormalisation decisions, and performance tuning.
- AWS fluency, including at least ECS, SQS, Lambda, CloudWatch, and S3.
Good to have:
- Experience with New Relic, Datadog, or Grafana.
- Ability to build dashboards, write queries, and create alerts based on real signals.
- Experience with Razorpay or any Indian payments stack such as Cashfree, PayU, or Stripe India.
- E-mandate or NACH experience.
- Python experience for data jobs, fixtures, automation, or scripting.
- React.js experience for small admin tools or internal dashboards.
- Open-source contributions, side projects, custom AI tools, or technical writing, or technical writing
