Job Description
Company Description
Veeyor Polymers is an established leader in the formulation of engineered epoxy and polyurethane systems, specializing in resin and polyurethane applications for industries such as electrical, electronics, and floor coatings. Founded in 1985 by K. Ramanathan, the company has a proven track record of excellence, including being named Best Entrepreneur by the Peenya Industries Association and SBI in 2007. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Veeyor Polymers is committed to innovation and providing high-performance solutions for adhesion and industrial needs. Our company is guided by decades of expertise and forward-looking leadership under Managing Director Dr. Karthik Gopalakrishnan.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Production Chemist, based in Bengaluru. The Production Chemist will be responsible for conducting process scale-up, analyzing existing chemical processes, ensuring adherence to quality control standards, and supporting production efforts. The role also involves ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and contributing to process optimization and production efficiency.
The Production Chemist bridges the gap between laboratory formulation and industrial-scale chemical synthesis. You will oversee and optimize the chemistry of the batch "cook" inside large-scale reactors, ensuring that polymerization, condensation, or modification reactions proceed safely, efficiently, and to exact specifications. Your technical expertise directly controls batch yield, cycle times, and structural consistency.
Key Responsibilities- Reaction Monitoring & Control: Supervise real-time chemical reactions inside industrial reactors. Monitor critical parameters including exothermic heat profiles, pressure changes, vacuum distillation cycles, and reflux rates.
- In-Process Testing Coordination: Perform or oversee rapid in-process testing (e.g., acid value, viscosity, NCO content, or gel time) to determine the exact endpoint of a reaction before striking or discharging the batch.
- Raw Material Charging & Calculations: Review batch sheets and calculate precise raw material charges, catalyst additions, and adjustments based on active content assays or moisture variations.
- Troubleshooting Deviation: Diagnose and correct real-time batch deviations (e.g., premature gelling, sluggish reaction rates, or color shifts) by adjusting temperature profiles, addition rates, or inhibitors safely.
- Process Optimization: Partner with R&D and Process Engineering to minimize batch cycle times, reduce solvent/utility consumption, and improve the "First Time Right" yield of high-performance resins.
- Documentation & Safety Compliance: Ensure impeccable maintenance of batch manufacturing records (BMRs). Adhere strictly to Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines, handling hazardous, flammable, or toxic raw materials (like epichlorohydrin, phenols, or isocyanates) with zero tolerance for exposure or leaks.
- Education: Masters degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a batch chemical manufacturing plant, with specific exposure to resin synthesis (e.g., epoxy resins, polyamides, alkyds, phenolics, or acrylics).
- Technical Proficiency:
- Thorough understanding of polymer chemistry mechanisms (step-growth, chain-growth, esterification).
- Practical knowledge of operating reactor utilities, including hot oil systems, cooling towers, vacuum pumps, and condenser setups.
- Familiarity with mass balance and basic thermodynamic calculations on the factory floor.
- Regulatory/Systems Knowledge: Experience working within ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 frameworks. Familiarity with ERP systems for chemical manufacturing data entry is an asset.
- Chemical Intuition: The ability to look at reactor telemetry (temperature spikes, torque changes) and accurately diagnose what is happening inside the vessel.
- Crisis Equanimity: Remaining calm, logical, and safety-oriented when managing a runaway exotherm or an out-of-spec reaction phase.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to communicate fluently with shop-floor operators, plant engineers, and laboratory R&D staff alike.
