Job Description
Octobotics Tech is seeking a full-time, office-based Naval Architect to lead our marine vertical. This is an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of marine engineering, leveraging advanced techniques to solve complex challenges in maritime and offshore operations. We value deep technical expertise and welcome experienced professionals to join our team under market-standard remuneration.
Detailed Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the end-to-end structural assessment and optimization of marine vessels. Your core responsibilities include:
- Structural Integrity & Analysis: Conduct in-depth structural integrity assessments by analyzing complex gauging data. You will determine the current sectional modulus and overall structural health of a vessel, evaluating its condition relative to its original "as-built" scantlings.
- Survey Planning & Strategic Execution: Design and oversee detailed gauging patterns. This requires tailoring your approach to a vessels specific age, type, and high-stress regionssuch as cargo hold frames or ballast tank boundariesensuring all planning is strictly in accordance with Class requirements.
- Regulatory Documentation (ESP/CAP): Manage all technical requirements for the Enhanced Survey Program (ESP) and Condition Assessment Program (CAP). You will ensure that all critical areas are monitored and compliant with industry standards.
- Advanced Engineering & FEA: Utilize collected thickness data to perform rigorous Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Your findings will be instrumental in determining whether weakened structures require immediate repairs or if maintenance can be safely deferred.
- Steel Weight & Repair Estimation: Accurately calculate the exact tonnage of steel replacement required when thickness measurements fall below allowable "diminution" limits, providing owners with precise repair projections.
- Corrosion Forecasting & Maintenance Planning: Monitor historical gauging data to forecast future corrosion rates. This analysis is critical for helping owners plan long-term maintenance budgets and optimize dry-docking intervals.
- Technical Reporting: Draft and certify comprehensive UTM reports. These reports must include detailed schematic drawings, clear measurement tables, and your expert conclusions regarding the vessel's fitness for sea.
- On-site Technical Supervision: Provide high-level engineering guidance during complex on-site surveys, including those for offshore platforms or FPSOs, where structural complexity demands real-time, critical decision-making.
Qualifications
