PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Manager AI Engineer is responsible for taking AI and automation solutions from concept to production while operating as a player/coach people manager: delivering high impact engineering work directly while managing and developing a team of AI leads and engineers. This role is accountable for hiring and onboarding, performance management, coaching and career development, and building a healthy, inclusive, high Performing team culture. The role allocates talent to squads, coordinates priorities and execution across multiple AI workstreams, and makes deliberate decisions between low code and pro code to balance speed, control, and long term risk. It designs reusable, secure, and observable AI components that integrate LLMs, data, APIs, and workflows. In partnership with product, program, and business stakeholders, the Manager AI Engineer sets delivery expectations, manages dependencies and risks, and communicates project status through clear updates, dashboards, and milestones. The role leads with high technical standards and clear accountability so AI systems scale reliably across the enterprise.
YOUR IMPACT (Job Responsibilities):
- Hands-on AI Engineering: Design, build, and maintain scalable AI automations that reach production and improve the speed of business through effective use of AI and automation.
- People Management: Manage and develop a team of AI leads/engineers through 1:1s, coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development; build engagement, clarity, and accountability.
- Hiring & Team Scaling: Own hiring plans, interviewing, and onboarding to grow team capacity; ensure role clarity, leveling, and skill coverage across workstreams.
- Technical Leadership & Quality Bar: Set and enforce engineering standards via design reviews, testing strategy, observability, security, reliability, and operational readiness; unblock teams on critical technical decisions.
- Delivery Management: Own planning and execution across AI workstreamsscope, milestones, dependencies, and risksensuring predictable delivery while remaining hands on for critical path work.
- Progress & Stakeholder Communication: Provide regular updates to business and technology stakeholders, translating technical work into outcomes, timelines, tradeoffs, and next steps; maintain lightweight reporting (status, KPIs, rollout readiness).
- Staffing & Prioritization: Allocate people to squads and priorities; balance roadmap demands with team capacity; drive healthy rituals (planning, standups, demos) and continuous improvement.
- Low code Methodology: Implement low code automations intentionally, using them where they improve speed and maintainabilitynot as a constraint or shortcutand guiding the team on the right low code vs. pro code choices.
- Modular Designs: Enable creation of reusable components and reference architectures that speed delivery, reduce duplication, and standardize patterns.
- Agentic Solutions: Architect, deploy, and monitor autonomous agentic workflows and solutions, ensuring they operate safely and effectively within business constraints.
- Collaboration: Act as a technical liaison across data science, data engineering, and product/program partners to ensure experimental models are translated into production grade systems aligned with business goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience OR Masters degree with typically 3+ years of relevant experience OR 8+ years of relevant experience without a degree.
Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Python or JavaScript, with significant experience in software engineering practices (testing, linting, modular design).
- Python - intermediate (APIs, data processing)
- JavaScript - working knowledge (REST + web automation scenarios)
- SQL/Any DB - solid querying skills
- PowerShell - basic understanding, good to have; infra/VM automation tasks
Applied AI Experience:
- Proven experience applying GenAI in either RAG workflows or agentic workflows.
- AI agent system deployed to production inclusive of RAG and tool use
- RAG automation workflows or intelligent automation use-case
- API: Practical work experience utilizing APIs to build software applications or automation workflows.
- Low Code Experience: Familiarity with utilizing low-code tools such as Automation Anywhere to increase speed to deliver and automate use-cases where APIs are unavailable; ability to navigate decisions around low-code versus pro-code solutions for automation.
- Delivery & Project Leadership: Experience leading delivery for complex initiatives (planning, prioritization, milestone management, dependency/risk management) and partnering effectively with product/program stakeholders.
- People Leadership (Direct Management): Proven experience as a direct people manager (hiring, onboarding, performance management, compensation input, coaching, and career development) for engineers or technical leads.
- Automation Testing: Knowledge of how to design automations for automated testing.
- Communication: Ability to provide written and oral interpretation of highly specialized technical terms to non-technical stakeholders and decision-makers; able to communicate status, tradeoffs, and risks clearly.
- Leadership: Proven ability to set technical direction, drive ownership and accountability, and align multiple stakeholders around priorities and outcomes.
- Agentic Hands-on Experience: Experience building an AI agent from scratch using an agentic SDK such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or similar is highly desirable.
WORKPLACE LOCATION:
- Location: This individual must reside within commuting distance from our office.
- Work Schedule: This role follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 4 days in-office per week
