Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager M365 Security to lead the strategy, governance, engineering, and operations of the Microsoft 365 security ecosystem.

This role will drive enterprise-wide security initiatives across Defender, Purview, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams, ensuring alignment between business objectives and security strategy. The position involves close collaboration with global stakeholders and leadership of complex environments, including M&A integrations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Governance

• Define and execute enterprise M365 security strategy
• Establish and maintain security policies, standards, and governance frameworks
• Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, GDPR, SOX, HIPAA, and internal policies
• Continuously assess emerging threats and Microsoft roadmap updates

Security Engineering & Architecture

• Lead implementation and configuration of Microsoft Defender suite
• Architect secure configurations across Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams
• Implement Conditional Access, MFA, and Zero Trust security models
• Integrate M365 telemetry with SIEM/SOAR platforms

Operational Management & Incident Response

• Manage M365 threat protection operations including phishing and malware defense
• Lead incident response for compromised accounts, phishing, OAuth misuse, and data leakage
• Coordinate with vendors, Microsoft support, and internal teams during incidents
• Maintain runbooks and operational documentation

Data Governance & Compliance

• Manage Microsoft Purview including DLP, retention, sensitivity labels, and eDiscovery
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Data Governance teams
• Ensure robust data protection and privacy controls

Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead and mentor a global team of security engineers and analysts
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineering, SOC, Network Security, and IT teams
• Support M&A projects, onboarding, and cloud transformation initiatives
• Promote a strong security-first culture

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or related field (Masters preferred)
• 12+ years of experience in cybersecurity with strong expertise in M365 security
• Hands-on experience with M365 security and compliance tools
• Strong knowledge of Defender, Purview, Entra ID, and Exchange Online
• Experience in data governance, DLP, retention policies, and compliance frameworks
• Expertise in Conditional Access, identity governance, and secure collaboration controls
• Proven experience working with global stakeholders in matrix organizations
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing major M365 incidents and vendor escalations
• Familiarity with AI-based security controls and M365 Copilot security considerations
• Experience with automation using PowerShell, KQL, or Graph API
• Experience supporting global or multi-region enterprises
• Demonstrated leadership in cloud security operations and incident response

Preferred Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect (SC-100)
• Microsoft Security Operations Analyst (SC-200)
• Microsoft Information Protection Administrator (SC-400)
• CISSP / CISM or equivalent
