Job Description

Job Title: Lead Learning Resource Centre

Location: University of Bristol Mumbai Campus

Reports To: Director Campus Operations, Quality Assurance & Registrar


Role Purpose

The Lead Learning Resource Centre will establish and lead a modern, technology-enabled academic library that supports teaching, learning, and research at the University of Bristol Mumbai Campus. The role will ensure access to high-quality physical and digital resources aligned with University of Bristol (UK) standards, while meeting UGC and Indian higher education requirements.


Key Responsibilities

1. Library Strategy & Development

  • Design and implement a library strategy aligned with academic priorities and research goals
  • Establish the library as a Learning Resource Centre integrating physical, digital, and collaborative learning spaces
  • Align services and collections with University of Bristol (UK) library standards and practices

2. Collection Development & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage library collections, including:
  • Print books, journals, and reference materials
  • E-books, e-journals, and databases
  • Multimedia and digital learning resources
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum-aligned acquisitions
  • Manage subscriptions to global academic databases (e.g., JSTOR, Scopus)
  • Ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements

3. Digital Library & Systems Management

  • Implement and manage Library Management Systems (LMS) and discovery tools
  • Provide seamless access to:
  • Online catalogues (OPAC)
  • Institutional repositories
  • Remote access systems for students and faculty
  • Promote the effective use of digital resources and research tools

4. User Services & Student Support

  • Deliver user-centric services, including:
  • Reference and research support
  • Information literacy training and workshops
  • Orientation programmes for students and faculty
  • Support students in academic research, citation practices, and the use of databases

5. Library Operations & Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day library operations, including:
  • Circulation services
  • Cataloguing and classification (e.g., Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress systems)
  • Inventory management and audits
  • Develop SOPs, policies, and service standards
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of library space, infrastructure, and resources

6. Compliance & Quality Standards

  • Ensure compliance with:
  • UGC norms for library resources and infrastructure
  • Institutional quality assurance frameworks
  • Support accreditation and audit processes by providing required documentation and data

7. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with:
  • Faculty and academic leadership
  • IT and digital services teams
  • Student services and quality assurance teams
  • Act as a liaison with publishers, database providers, and library consortia

Key Deliverables / KPIs

  • Library utilisation rates (physical and digital)
  • Student and faculty satisfaction scores
  • Alignment of resources with academic programmes
  • Timely acquisition and accessibility of resources
  • Compliance with UGC and institutional quality assurance standards
  • Effectiveness of research support (faculty engagement, citation support)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Masters degree in Library & Information Science (MLISc / MLibSc) essential
  • 47 years of experience in academic libraries, preferably within higher education
  • Experience in digital libraries and international academic environments preferred

  • Strong knowledge of library science principles and digital resource management
  • User-centric approach with a strong service orientation
  • Proficiency in library systems, tools, and academic databases
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills
  • Excellent analytical and organisational abilities

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in setting up a new academic library or Learning Resource Centre
  • Familiarity with UK higher education library systems and practices
  • Exposure to global research databases and scholarly communication trends
