Lead Design Engineer – Consumer Electronics Product Design

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Lead Design Engineer specializing in consumer electronics product design, based in Bengaluru.

Key Responsibilities

*Lead concept generation for new consumer electronic products from sketch to feasibility model in Creo

*Drive NPD gate reviews prepare technical packs, BOM, risk registers, and design freeze documentation.

*Design, develop and validate complex mechanisms: hinges, sliders, deployable assemblies, latching systems, and multi-axis linkages

*Collaborate with industrial designers to balance form, function, and manufacturability

*Own full 3D parametric models and assemblies in Creo Parametric; manage PDM/PLM release cycles

*Lead supplier and tooling reviews; provide technical guidance to injection molding and die-cast partners

*Knowledge of ANSYS to run structural, modal, and thermal simulations is a strong added advantage

*Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; champion engineering best practices across the team

*Perform motor selection for actuated mechanisms evaluate motor types (DC, BLDC, stepper, servo)

based on load, speed, and duty cycle requirements

*Support patent disclosures and IP documentation for novel mechanisms and assemblies

*Execute torque calculations for complex drive trains, gear systems, linkages, and actuated assemblies to

ensure design margins and reliability

*Define GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and DFM guidelines for plastic, die-cast, and sheet-metal parts

Qualifications

• B.E. / B.Tech or M.E. in Mechanical Engineering
• Proven NPD track record in consumer electronics (smartphones, wearables, audio, appliances, or similar)
• 710 years of product design engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead role
• Strong expertise in complex mechanism design kinematics, spring/cam systems, multi-body assemblies
• Hands-on Creo Parametric expertise surfacing, top-down design, and mechanism simulation
• Experience in DFM, tolerance analysis, GD&T and managing tooling vendors through T0 to T3 cycles
• Knowledge of ANSYS for structural FEA and modal analysis on electromechanical assemblies is an added advantage
• Excellent cross-functional communication comfortable in design reviews, gate meetings, and factory audits
• Hands-on experience in motor selection DC, BLDC, stepper, or servo matched to mechanical load profiles
• Proficiency in torque calculations for gear trains, cams, linkages, and multi-stage actuated mechanisms
• Proven NPD track record in consumer electronics (smartphones, wearables, audio, appliances, or similar)
• Strong expertise in complex mechanism design kinematics, spring/cam systems, multi-body assemblies
• Experience in DFM, tolerance analysis, and managing tooling vendors through T0 to T3 cycles
• Excellent cross-functional communication comfortable in design reviews, gate meetings, and factory audits
