What this role is

GEN is looking for a Junior Art Director who can think beyond individual creatives and contribute to brand worlds that feel coherent, intentional, and built to last. This is not a production-only design role, and it is not meant for someone who is only comfortable executing pre-decided directions. The person in this role will work closely with the Art Director and founder on real client mandates, shaping concepts, building systems, and translating strategy into sharp visual output with increasing independence as they demonstrate the ability to lead.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of creative concepts, visual layouts, and presentation-ready designs for client and internal projects, with review support from the Art Director.
• Independently manage design execution on select small to mid-scale projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project briefs and brand guidelines.
• Work on brand identity, visual systems, campaign design, pitch decks, presentations, and communication collaterals across digital and print.
• Translate research, positioning, and strategic direction into visual concepts that are original, clear, and usable across formats.
• Contribute to the development of brand worlds, not just isolated assets or one-off posts.
• Build layouts, typographic systems, and visual directions with strong attention to detail and consistency.
• Conduct visual, trend, and brand research to support project development; prepare moodboards, style references, and visual frameworks for team review.
• Participate in client briefings and feedback calls as required; assist in recording client inputs, coordinating minor revisions, and preparing visual presentations.
• Run quality checks on assigned design files for accuracy, brief alignment, and craft standard before internal submissions.
• Provide occasional creative feedback and technical guidance to junior designers and interns.
• All work created during the engagement remains the exclusive property of GEN. Confidentiality of client and studio information is expected at all times.

Who should apply

• NIFT, NID, IIT, Srishti, or equivalent design graduate with 1+ year of relevant experience, or 2 to 3 years of experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating branding, identity, communication, editorial, or presentation design.
• Strong command of design fundamentals: typography, composition, layout, and colour.
• Comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite; Figma proficiency is a plus.
• Able to think conceptually, not just decorate.
• Takes feedback well, works with care, and knows how to push work from decent to sharp.
• Not the right fit if you are looking for a role where creative direction is fully handed to you before you begin.
