OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

The L2 Exadata Database Machine Administrator (DMA) is responsible for the hands-on management and operational excellence of Oracle Exadata Database Machine infrastructure. Unlike traditional DBA roles, this position focuses on platform health, hardware diagnostics, lifecycle management, and performance optimization of Exadata components. The role is critical in ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of Exadata infrastructure, directly supporting business continuity and digital transformation objectives at HCLTech.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

• Exadata Infrastructure Administration
• Administer and operate Oracle Exadata Database Machine infrastructure (storage cells, DB servers, networking).
• Utilize CELLCLI and DCLI tools for scalable administration and automation.
• Manage and maintain Exadata storage constructs: LUNs, Cell Disks, Grid Disks.
• Monitor and tune platform performance at the cell/storage level.
• Hardware Operations & Troubleshooting
• Lead troubleshooting of Exadata hardware/component faults and coordinate resolution.
• Perform and coordinate cell storage software and disk replacement activities.
• Patching & Lifecycle Management
• Execute Exadata bundle rolling patching for Storage Cells, DB Servers, PDUs, and network switches.
• Perform platform-side RDBMS and Grid Infrastructure patching and coordination.
• Monitoring, Alerting & Diagnostics
• Install and configure Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 13c agents on compute nodes and integrate Exadata discovery.
• Configure and manage monitoring/alerting for Exadata events via OEM 13c.
• Implement and administer ASR and Oracle Gateway for hardware alerts; coordinate with Oracle Support.
• Manage Exadata through ILOM and collect diagnostics (Sundiag, ILOM snapshots, Exacheck/Exachk reports).
• Supporting Platform Skills
• Perform OS administration tasks on Oracle Linux/Solaris for Exadata compute nodes.
• Utilize basic Unix shell scripting and manage Unix user/filesystem activities.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS | Mandatory Technical Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Exadata infrastructure, including architecture understanding (Flash Cache, Storage Index, HCC).
• Proficiency in administration using CELLCLI and DCLI.
• Experience managing Exadata hardware components and networking.
• Hands-on management of Cell Disks, Grid Disks, and LUNs.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and experience with disk replacement.
• Proven expertise in Exadata bundle rolling patching (Storage Cells, DB Servers, PDUs, switches).
• Experience in RDBMS and Grid Infrastructure patching.
• Installation and configuration of OEM 13c agents, Exadata discovery/integration.
• ASR implementation and Oracle Support coordination.
• Experience with ILOM, Sundiag, and Exacheck/Exachk diagnostics.

Educational Background:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Certifications (Preferred):
• Oracle Exadata certification or equivalent relevant credentials.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (OPTIONAL)

• Experience in ZFS administration.
• Working knowledge of RAC/ASM administration in Exadata environments.
• Exposure to RAC, Database, and ASM management; understanding of RAC architecture.
• Performance tuning experience for RAC/Database (supporting skill).
