About California Design Den
California Design Den (CDD) is a US-based premium home & lifestyle brand with a fast-growing Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) business powered by Shopify Plus. CDD primarily sells to customers in the US through its brand website and leading e-commerce platforms.
The Role
Were building a Decision Science team to be the analytical engine behind CDDs marketplace growth. Your mandate is two-fold: keep our GCP data infrastructure running cleanly and cost-efficiently, and bring statistical thinking, ML model selection, and prescriptive/predictive reasoning to help the business make better decisions.
Youll work closely with a Power BI developer on the team. If you get excited by choosing the right model for a demand forecasting problem or debugging a data pipeline at 9am, this role is for you.
What Youll Own
Analytics & Decision Science
Select and apply appropriate statistical or ML models for prediction, forecasting, and prescriptive analysis
Translate business questions into analytical framings define the right metric, model type, and evaluation approach
Build and maintain demand forecasting, inventory, and scenario planning models for our marketplace SKU portfolio
Document modelling decisions: what was evaluated, why a model was selected, what assumptions were made
GCP Data Infrastructure
Monitor, maintain, and optimise all GCP data pipelines (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Cloud Scheduler)
Manage storage and compute costs partitioning, clustering, lifecycle policies, query optimisation
Audit and maintain data connections across Amazon Ads, Seller Central, Walmart, and 3PL/WMS source systems
Set up alerting and logging so issues surface before the business notices them
Power BI & Team Support
Serve as backup to the Power BI developer validate reports, check refresh status, cover BAU when needed
Support the Team Lead on new data product and modelling initiatives
Adopt and contribute to new tools AI-assisted analytics, automation scripts with genuine enthusiasm
Must Have
Statistical & ML modelling regression, classification, time-series, clustering; knows when to use what
GCP: BigQuery, Cloud Storage, IAM, Cloud Scheduler
SQL strong; complex query writing and optimisation
Python proficient; pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels or equivalent
Data pipeline maintenance and troubleshooting
Working knowledge of Power BI
Good to Have
Forecasting models: ARIMA, Prophet, XGBoost, LightGBM for demand/inventory use cases
GCP cost management: partitioning, clustering, query billing
Dataflow, Pub/Sub, or dbt
Exposure to AI/LLM tooling or automation frameworks
Prior experience in D2C, e-commerce, or supply-chain environments
