Backend Engineer

About the Role

MRC Logistics is a 50-year-old logistics company building the next generation of technology for Indian supply chains.

We serve 500+ customers through a nationwide network of 90+ branches across India, operating across B2B FTL, PTL, warehousing, and supply chain management. We are expanding our in-house engineering team to build modern backend systems that will become the foundation of our next phase of growth.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, and data models for logistics, warehousing, and transportation workflows.
• Design relational database schemas with strong attention to correctness, consistency, indexing, query performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Build reliable integrations with internal systems, customer systems, vendor APIs, and other operational data sources.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to raise the engineering bar.
• Collaborate closely with operations, product, business, and leadership teams to translate complex real-world workflows into simple, reliable software.
• Contribute to architectural discussions around system design, database design, API design, reliability, observability, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Strong proficiency in modern backend languages such asJava, Go, or Python.
• Strong understanding of backend fundamentals: REST APIs, service-layer design, modular architecture, error handling, validation, authentication, authorization, and background processing.
• Strong SQL and relational database skills, with experience in PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases.
• Ability to design clean database schemas and reason about indexes, joins, transactions, constraints, migrations, and query performance.
• Experience writing production-quality code with testing, code reviews, version control, CI/CD, and deployment workflows.
• Strong ownership mindset, clear communication, and ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
• Demonstrated ability to design and build end-to-end backend systems, shown through production work, deployed projects, open-source contributions, or a strong technical portfolio.
