Role summary:The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, API design, and AI/ML integration to build secure, maintainable solutions. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business goals and engineering excellence. The engineer applies data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality software solutions.

Our team collaborates closely with Walmart U.S. stores and eCommerce to enhance customer experience through innovative technology. Supporting a wide product range—including groceries, entertainment, sporting goods, and crafts—available both online and in-store, we focus on advancing customer service, merchant tools, data science, and personalized search. By working across functions, we deliver solutions that empower stores, merchants, and associates to address evolving business needs efficiently. This role supports the development and maintenance of systems that uphold Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, observability, and maintenance.
- Lead system design reviews to ensure quality, feasibility, and alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using modern programming languages and platforms.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics using data-driven practices.
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and products to enhance scalability, resilience, and agility.
What you'll bring:
- Proven experience in software development with strong proficiency in cloud-native architecture and platform engineering.
- Expertise in designing scalable, resilient, and maintainable systems using microservices, containers, and automation.
- Solid understanding of software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to ensure high-quality solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and monitoring.
- Strong problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making and debugging capabilities.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions to promote engineering excellence.
- Effective collaboration skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
