Construction autonomy is one of the most complex challenges in applied AI, and at Caterpillar, advancements in physical AI, simulation, sensing, and edge computing are turning things that once felt impossible—intelligent machines operating in dynamic jobsites—into reality.
This is an early leader role which will establish a team in partnership with his peers to develop and implement high fidelity digital twins supporting automation and robotics. In addition to that, they will also lead the development of the simulation platform based on NVIDIA technology. They will also lead the charge on neural network-based simulations.
What Will You Do:
- Hire and develop a team of simulation and rendering/visualization engineers focused on VLA based robotics.
- Hire and develop a team of software engineers to build the future omniverse NVIDIA based simulation platform.
- Work with management to bring skills related to statistical and neural network-based simulation to Caterpillar.
- Work with peers and management to define the long-term vision, for robotics simulation and allied platform.
- Partner with leadership and peers to establish a multi-year simulation and digital twin roadmap, supporting automation and robotics.
- Translate business and autonomy requirements into simulation solutions. Identifying where simulations and digital twins can support robotics.
- Determine the technologies, and simulation capabilities for the future of robotics.
- Work closely with engineering, autonomy, controls, software, product teams, and enterprise data groups to ensure simulation solutions meet business outcomes and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
- Assess current simulation assets across Caterpillar and define the strategy to integrate, extend, or consolidate them into a cohesive digital ecosystem supporting robotics.
What Will You Have:
- 5+ year management experience in robotics and/or simulation and/or software. Start-up preferred.
- 5+ years in simulation, robotics or autonomy—with direct experience deploying Omniverse based digital twins strongly preferred.
- Background in construction, mining automation and robotics will be preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics or related discipline.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- Very strong background in statistical and neural network simulation.
- Track record in establishing new organizations.
- Deep understanding of simulation architecture, robotics, model governance, verification/validation practices, and integration of simulations with real time data sources.
- Proven ability to work with senior management to establish vision, strategy, and multiyear roadmaps.
- Excellent communication skills for translating complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.
- Master’s or PhD preferred

Summary Pay Range:
$159,120.00 - $258,570.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
