About the role:
We are looking for a highly motivated and result-oriented Market Underwriter. You will be a one-stop shop" for our Indian clients and be accountable for high-quality underwriting, account,t, and client management.
You will engage in frequent dialogue with brokers and clients on strategic, financial,l and technical topics, building long-term relationships. With a resulted oriented approach, you will identify and originate new opportunities to support your clients, differentiating Swiss Re and delivering the full value of the organization.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and champion client relations across the full range of experience from specialist to senior management levels
- Find opportunities with existing and new clients to grow the business and develop bespoke reinsurance deals in conjunction with relevant specialists
- Perform end-to-end underwriting analysis for proportional and non-proportional treaty business, including pricing, contracts review, and basic structuring for various lines of business
- Evaluate and assess risks by company guidelines and standards, make underwriting decisions within respective authority level
- Negotiate annual renewal and new business, apply consultative sales techniques to identify client's needs, and deploy services as applicable
- Build, maintain, and further develop a strong internal and external network, including relationships with clients, brokers, and industry associations
- Gather and internally share market intelligence (trends in buying behaviors and competitors' undertakings); attend conferences and market events
About You:
- 7 to 10 years of relevant working experience in the insurance/reinsurance sector.
- Having prior treaty analysis and underwriting experience preferably in property
- Familiarity with Natcat, fire, motor, and liability costing
- Customer-focused (understands needs and acts on them), strong interpersonal skills (comfortable engaging with clients and brokers)
- Strong quantitative/analytical skills, underwriting judgment, and experience with risk selection/evaluation as well as a flair for wording and costing issues
- Consultancy skills (listen, ask the right questions, and "connect the dots"), coupled with financial acumen and relevant corporate finance knowledge
- Solid negotiation and sales skills, ability to successfully handle conflicts, at ease with leaving the comfort zone and navigating ambiguity
- Understanding of the end-to-end (re)insurance value chain and relevant market knowledge (e.g. trends, competitors, capital markets context)
- Entrepreneurial mindset (sense of urgency, cost consciousness, and personal risk-taking), committed to sustainable performance and continuous improvement
- Organizational/project management skills, ability to manage peak period workloads
- Ability to work independently as well as to collaborate in a team environment
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change
- Creative thinking capability and a problem-solving attitude
- Experience working in a multicultural environment will be an added advantage
