Job Description

About the role

As a member of the Network team, your goal is to:

  • Implement network features that solve real problems, helping end-users utilize the network effectively, efficiently, and in novel ways
  • Design and implement routing protocol improvements for network appliances
  • Build a playbook for automating provisioning, installations, and support
  • Handle software and hardware upgrades in the field
  • Collaborate with the backend team on connecting devices to the cloud for command and control
  • Collaborate with operations and support teams on tools to improve network operations proactively and on telemetry that can be shared with customers to provide insight into the value of the service.

Fundamentally, you will provide the state-of-the-art foundation on which the network is built in the real world. The team leverages existing open-source software whenever possible. Users are both internal and external; in addition to customers, this includes engineers who build on top of the platforms and the Operations team that installs, monitors, and uses the devices.

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • Experience building mesh networks
  • Comfort troubleshooting Linux-based systems
  • Automation and scripting experience
  • Experience with deep packet analysis and tools like Wireshark
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving network issues, and communicating clearly with impacted users
  • Experience with network hardware such as Cisco, Meraki, Aruba, Ruckus, or Ubiquiti
  • The ability to handle a high level of autonomy and responsibility
  • Comfort working with OpenWRT
  • Expertise in networking protocols (L2/L3), ideally running on network appliances
  • Understanding and experience with L4 to L7 services (firewall, NAT, VPN, IPv6, load balancing, tunneling protocols), including relevant algorithms and architectures
  • A strong appreciation for stability and security in hardware that affects end-user connectivity and experience
  • The ability to methodically evaluate and test multiple solutions and make a clear case for the best path forward
  • Understanding of HostAPD, captive portals, RADIUS, AAA, identity and role management, and RadSec
  • Hands-on experience with tunnels, firewalls, iptables, flow classification, QoS, TLS, and DTLS

Nice to have

  • Certifications such as CCNA, CWNA, CWAP, CWDP, CWSP, or CWNE
