About the company
Loop Charging Module (LCM) is a pioneering EV technology startup founded by IIT Kharagpur alumni, focused on solving EV range anxiety through innovative modular charging solutions.
LCM is developing a path-breaking airflow energy recovery system designed to harness wind energy from moving vehicles and convert it into usable electrical power. By integrating advanced aerodynamic propellers, mechanical transmission systems, and compact generators, LCM aims to extend the driving range and operational efficiency of electric vehicles.
Supported by leading incubators such as Wadhwani Foundation, StrongHer, Atal Incubation Centre, and IIMB NSRCEL , and backed by equity-free grants, LCM is working to reshape sustainable mobility in India.
Position Overview
This role is one of the core engineering positions in the LCM. We're looking for a dedicated and technically strong aerodynamic engineer who can design and optimize high-performance propellers specifically suited for energy generation. Your primary focus will be on propeller design and optimization, similar to those used in small-scale wind turbines (HAWT or VAWT), rather than conventional car aerodynamics. While you may occasionally perform light CFD studies on vehicle airflow and integration, the main goal is to develop the most efficient propeller system for variable-speed airflow conditions generated by the moving vehicle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize airfoil and propeller geometries using tools like ANSYS
- Fluent, QBlade, or SolidWorks Flow.
- Focus on wind-turbine-style propeller development (HAWT, VAWT, or hybrid designs ) for efficient energy conversion at varying speeds.
- Analyze lift-to-drag ratios, torque generation, and overall aerodynamic
- efficiency.
- Collaborate with the generator and integration teams to ensure aerodynamic and mechanical compatibility.
- Conduct airflow testing and performance validation, followed by continuous refinement based on test results.
- Study propeller materials and manufacturing feasibility for lightweight, durable performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Energy, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent hands-on wind energy experience).
- Mandatory end-to-end experience in wind turbine rotor/blade design, simulation, manufacturing, and testing; candidates with only CAD/CFD experience will not be considered.
- Strong knowledge of wind turbine aerodynamics including BEMT, Cp, TSR, and torqueRPM behavior, with hands-on use of tools such as QBlade, XFOIL, and basic CFD.
- Hands-on manufacturing and prototyping experience, including blade fabrication, rotor assembly, balancing, and real-world testing, with the ability to iterate designs based on test results.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on work in wind turbine projects, propeller optimization, or airflow
- testing.
- Experience in experimental validation or small-scale aerodynamic hardware fabrication.
We are looking for somene who:
- Is deeply passionate about propeller design and airflow energy systems.
- Enjoys experimenting, testing, and fine-tuning aerodynamic designs for real-world results.
- Can work collaboratively across teams while owning their domain of design excellence.
