Discovery & Design Specialist Infrastructure End User Computing Tools (SCOM)

Role Overview

The Discovery & Design Specialist for Infrastructure End User Computing Tools (SCOM) is responsible for assessing current monitoring capabilities, identifying gaps, and designing robust solutions leveraging Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and related EUC monitoring tools. This role ensures proactive monitoring, alerting, and reporting to maintain high availability and performance of end-user computing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery

• Conduct workshops to gather requirements for EUC monitoring and alerting.
• Analyze existing SCOM infrastructure, management packs, and alert configurations.
• Identify gaps in monitoring coverage for endpoints, applications, and services.
• Review compliance requirements and SLAs for monitoring and reporting.

Design

• Develop architecture for SCOM deployment and integration with EUC tools.
• Design management packs, alert thresholds, and dashboards for proactive monitoring.
• Create strategies for high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability of SCOM.
• Define integration with ITSM tools for automated incident creation and escalation.

Governance

• Establish standards for monitoring policies and alert tuning.
• Document operational procedures, escalation paths, and compliance checks.
• Create lifecycle management plans for SCOM updates and management pack versions.

Collaboration

• Work with EUC, infrastructure, and application teams to validate monitoring requirements.
• Provide knowledge transfer and training to operations teams.
• Coordinate with security and compliance teams for audit readiness.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure monitoring and EUC tools.
• Expertise in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) architecture and configuration.
• Strong knowledge of Windows endpoints, Active Directory, and related services.
• Experience in creating and customizing SCOM management packs and dashboards.
• Ability to analyze performance data and optimize monitoring strategies.
• Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in Microsoft technologies (e.g., MCSE, SCOM-specific).
• Experience with automation using PowerShell and integration with ITSM tools.
• Knowledge of cloud-based monitoring solutions and hybrid environments.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks and SLA-driven monitoring.

• Discovery report detailing current monitoring posture.
• High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) for SCOM architecture.
• Management pack customization documentation.
• Alerting and dashboard configuration guide.
• Operational handover and SOP documentation.
