VP - Software Engineer

Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI, Inc. seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer in Mumbai, India to lead the design and implementation of next-generation platforms modernizing MSCI’s index building capabilities. This role owns critical technical areas, drives architectural decisions, and plays a key role in adopting AI-driven and agentic solutions across data-intensive systems.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, resilient systems that support index construction, rebalancing, and analytics at scale.

• Lead modernization efforts by evolving legacy platforms toward modular, cloud-native, and service-oriented architectures.

• Own complex technical solutions end-to-end, from requirements and design through deployment and production support.

• Drive the design and implementation of AI-enabled and agentic solutions to automate workflows, improve decision-making, and enhance system intelligence.

• Lead design reviews and provide technical mentorship to engineers across the team.

• Ensure strong database design and performance, including schema design, query optimization, and large-scale data processing.

• Analyze system performance, reliability, and scalability, proactively identifying and addressing risks.

• Collaborate closely with product managers, quantitative teams, and other stakeholders to translate index methodology and business needs into robust technical solutions.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

• Extensive experience in software development with deep expertise in one or more major programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, C#, Python).

• Strong database fundamentals, including data modeling, indexing strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning for large datasets.

• Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale, data-intensive platforms.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, service-oriented or microservices architectures, and cloud platforms.

• Hands-on experience or strong familiarity with AI/ML systems, including agentic architectures, workflow orchestration, or AI-assisted automation.

• Experience leading technical design efforts and influencing system architecture decisions.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and quantitative teams.
