Job Description

The incumbent will lead the end-to-end credit and underwriting function for the Educational Institutions Financing business, covering schools, colleges, universities, and other education service providers. The role is responsible for evaluating credit proposals, assessing institutional and promoter risk, structuring transactions, and ensuring adherence to internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines. This is a senior leadership role that requires strong credit acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to balance growth with prudent risk management.  

The incumbent will be responsible for evaluating, structuring, and monitoring large-value institutional loan proposals, while ensuring portfolio quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The role requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on credit evaluation, understanding the local markets with regards to property and trust laws, along with the ability to mentor junior credit professionals.

Key roles and responsibilities

Credit Appraisal and Underwriting

• Lead the evaluation and underwriting of credit proposals for educational institutions, conducting in-depth financial, business, and risk analysis.
• Review financial statements, cash flows, collateral structures, and management capability to assess creditworthiness.
• Prepare comprehensive credit memos for approval from Credit Committee and ensure adherence to internal policies and risk appetite.
• Oversee Post Disbursement Documentation (PDD) management and ensure timely completion of personal discussion notes and customer visits, particularly for high-value cases.

Disbursement Oversight

• Approve disbursement requests after verifying compliance with sanction conditions, documentation completion, and adherence to agreed terms.
• Ensure disbursements are processed within defined credit and operational controls.

Portfolio and Risk Management

• Monitor and manage the assigned credit portfolio to maintain asset quality and minimize delinquencies.
• Track portfolio performance, identify early warning signals, and initiate corrective action.  Handling of infant delinquencies
• Collaborate with the recoveries team to manage stressed accounts and generate actionable business insights from portfolio trends.

Due Diligence and External Coordination

• Lead and oversee detailed due diligence on prospective borrowers, including market standing, regulatory compliance, and operational performance.
• Coordinate with external agencies for financial investigation, legal and technical valuations, ensuring timely and high-quality report submission.
• Proactively follow up to resolve vendor queries and eliminate non-process-related delays.

Policy and Process Implementation

• Develop, refine, and implement credit policies, frameworks, and procedures tailored for the education sector.
• Ensure all credit activities comply with internal guidelines, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.

·       Provide thought leadership on sectoral risks and emerging trends.
