Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated Veterinary Livestock Development Assistant (VLDA) / Paravet to join our team. The VLDA will play a key role in providing veterinary care, supporting livestock health initiatives, and ensuring overall animal welfare. This role is ideal for someone passionate about animal health and welfare, with a hands-on approach to veterinary assistance in livestock.
Key Responsibilities- Assist veterinarians in the diagnosis and treatment of animals, including administering medications and vaccinations.
- Perform routine check-ups and minor treatments for livestock under the supervision of a veterinarian.
- Assist with health management programs, including parasite control, reproductive health, and nutrition.
- Educate farmers and livestock owners on best practices for animal health, biosecurity, and disease prevention.
- Collect samples for laboratory testing as required, ensuring accurate handling and transport.
- Maintain detailed records of treatments, vaccinations, and other veterinary procedures.
- Assist in animal husbandry practices, including feeding, breeding, and maintaining hygienic living conditions for livestock.
- Respond to emergency cases and provide basic first aid to injured or sick animals.
- Support the development and implementation of vaccination and animal welfare programs in local communities.
- Educational Background: Diploma in Veterinary Science (VLDA) or related field. Bachelors degree in veterinary or animal sciences is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in veterinary support or animal husbandry.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of livestock health and disease management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for educating farmers and livestock owners.
- Ability to handle animals safely and humanely.
- Basic data entry and record-keeping skills.
- Physical Ability: Ability to work in rural or farm settings, perform physical tasks related to animal care, and handle various types of livestock.
- Licensing: Valid VLDA certification or equivalent as per local regulations.
