Job Description
Visual Merchandising Intern Strategic Responsibilities (3 Months)
1. Assortment & Display Strategy Support
Assist in analysing store-wise sales, top sellers, and category performance to recommend optimal product assortments for displays.
Support the VM team in building display-density strategies for different store sizes and formats.
Help identify hero categories, slow movers, and opportunity gaps to influence display decisions.
2. Weekly Business & VM Performance Analysis
Track the impact of VM changes on sales uplift, conversion, and category mix.
Prepare simple dashboards on sell-through, ROS (Rate of Sale), and weekly performance trends.
Suggest minor layout tweaks based on performance observations.
3. Launch & Campaign Planning
Assist in pre-planning of new collection launches:
SKU shortlisting for windows and focal areas
Colour-story alignment
Merch mix based on historical data and forecasts
Support creation of floor-set plans and analytical prep for festive campaigns.
4. Planogram & Space Optimization
Contribute to building merchandise-led planograms using product depth, width, and store profile.
Evaluate space utilisation:
linear footage
shelf capacity
adjacency planning
Recommend improvements to improve customer flow and category visibility.
5. Competitive & Trend Research
Conduct market and competitor benchmarking for pricing, display trends, adjacencies, and product density.
Identify emerging VM styles, product themes, and consumer behaviour trends that can influence future store display strategy.
6. Inventory & Display Stock Coordination
Partner with the planning/ops team to track display stock ageing and store-level availability.
Flag OOS (out-of-stock) or low-stock concerns that may impact displays.
Suggest alternative SKUs based on inventory health.
7. Data-Backed Visual Storytelling
Support creation of strategic decks:
VM performance recaps
launch rationale documents
monthly walkthroughs
display roadmaps
Present display concepts with supporting data (sales drivers, customer insights, product focus).
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
Work with Planning, Buying, Operations, and Marketing to align product priorities with VM execution.
Help maintain a VMPlanning calendar for launches, markdowns, and seasonal transitions.
9. Store Profiling & Strategic Display Allocation
Assist in building store clusters based on sales potential, assortment width, and customer profile.
Help map SKU allocation logic for windows/focal zones across Tier 1, 2, and 3 stores.
10. Learning, Projects & Strategic Assignments
Complete at least one strategic VM project:
e.g., Display density recalibration, Trend-based story creation, Cross-store performance analysis.
Present findings to the VM leadership team at the end of internship.
