Job Description

The position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of handling and managing more than 2,000 drivers within the organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient utilization of driver resources, maintaining high safety and compliance standards, and achieving operational goals while meeting customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Driver Management

  • Recruit, train, and onboard drivers in accordance with company standards and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure drivers comply with internal policies, safety norms, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Assign drivers to routes and schedules based on workload, demand, and availability.
  • Monitor driver performance related to safety, punctuality, discipline, and customer service.
  • Address driver grievances, absenteeism, and performance issues effectively.

2. Fleet Coordination & Management

  • Coordinate with the workshop, maintenance and operations teams to ensure vehicles with proper deployment of drivers.
  • Monitor vehicle inspections, registrations, permits, insurance, and statutory renewals.
  • Utilize GPS tracking and route planning tools to monitor driver movement in real time.
  • Adjust routes and driver allocations based on traffic, breakdowns, or operational changes.

4. Compliance & Safety Management

  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations, including driver eligibility, and vehicle norms.
  • Conduct periodic safety training and awareness programs for drivers.
  • Attend / Investigate accidents, violations, and incidents, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

5. Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time performance, driver productivity, fuel efficiency, and safety metrics.
  • Prepare regular operational reports for management review.
  • Implement improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve driver discipline and performance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors / Masters degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field, with minimum 5 years experience in drivers management/handling.
  • Strong knowledge of transport laws, safety standards, and fleet operations.
