Job Title: Vice President Credit Emerging Enterprises & Financial Institutions

Job Purpose

To lead the credit underwriting and risk management function for emerging enterprises and financial institutions, ensuring adherence to organizational risk frameworks, fostering a positive credit culture, managing a team of credit professionals, and driving efficiency in credit processing and decision-making.

This is a senior role reporting directly to the National Credit Manager (NCM). Regularly interact with senior management to provide updates, highlight risks, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Present key cases, provide data-backed insights, and drive collaborative decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Credit Underwriting & Appraisal

  • Independently manage the end-to-end credit process, including underwriting, assessing risks, and preparing the sanction letter in coordination with the business, legal, and operations teams.
  • Conduct thorough credit appraisals involving financial analysis, system and process verification, management and branch visits, and comprehensive evaluation of credit, market, liquidity, and operational risks to ensure robust and informed lending decisions.
  • Review and maintain the quality of Credit Appraisal Memos (CAMs) prepared by the team, ensuring thoroughness from both analysis and operational perspectives.
  • Present the finalized case to the credit committee, providing a comprehensive view of the merits, risks, and recommendations.

Team Leadership & Client Relationship Management

  • Manage a team of 4-6 Credit Managers/Associates, providing guidance, mentorship, and driving their performance to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with legal, risk, business, operations team & 3rd party agencies to streamline credit processes.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with promoters and the management team of customers to enhance business opportunities and deepen client trust.
  • Strategically contribute to the development of a positive risk culture while fostering a high-performing, collaborative team environment.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Post Disbursement Documents (PDD) and delinquency management frameworks.
  • Address audit queries effectively and maintain confidentiality of client and company information.
  • Develop, review, and implement risk policies, including credit and pricing policies, in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Liaise with financial audit teams and ensure adherence to internal control policies to mitigate risks and prevent fraud.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education and Experience

  • Education: CA/CFA/MBA from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in credit underwriting and risk assessment.
  • Preferred Background: Managerial experience in rating agencies, wholesale lending verticals in banks, NBFCs, or debt funds, with a focus on financial institutions and startup funding.

Functional Competencies

  • Proficient in credit underwriting for NBFCs, HFCs, MFIs, fintechs and startups.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, ratios, balance sheets, and risk management frameworks.
  • Core banking knowledge and expertise in assessing industry-specific trends and risks.

Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel 5-7 days per month for site visits and client meetings.
