Education
- Bachelors or masters degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, Instrumentation, or related fields.
Experience
- 38 years of experience in VFD applications, product engineering, or commissioning roles.
Position Overview
Responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing solutions based on Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for industrial applications. This role involves deep collaboration with product development teams, field engineering, sales, and customers to ensure successful selection, integration, commissioning, and lifecycle support for VFDbased systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Application Engineering
- Evaluate customer requirements and recommend suitable VFD solutions
- Perform load calculations, torquespeed analysis, and motordrive sizing.
- Support system integration with PLC, SCADA, DCS, and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet).
- Develop application-specific control algorithms (e.g., PID tuning, vector control, torque control).
- Assist sales teams with technical proposals, BOQs, and feasibility assessments.
2. Product Development & Testing
- Participate in design, validation, and improvement of new VFD hardware and firmware.
- Testing of VFD functions.
- Create product validation test plans and document test results.
- Support VFD Panel design engineering.
- Collaborate with R&D teams for enhancements or customization based on application needs.
3. Commissioning & Field Support
- Support Field Engineer and troubleshooting of VFD systems at customer sites.
- Diagnose electrical, control, or mechanical integration challenges.
- Support field upgrades, firmware updates, and product retrofits.
- Testing of Cabinet Drive Solutions.
- Train customers and internal teams on VFD operation and configuration.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and root cause analyses.
- Provide insights into market trends, competitor analysis, and emerging technology.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Power electronics & inverter topologies
- AC induction & synchronous motors
- Vector control, V/f control algorithms
- Harmonics analysis, THDi mitigation
- Industrial automation & communication protocols
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, SLDs, and wiring diagrams.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problemsolving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and customerengagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and across multifunctional teams.
- Willingness to travel for site work and customer support.
Work Environment
- Combination of office, lab testing, and field-based work.
- May require working in industrial sites such as oil & gas, metals, power, HVAC, water treatment, and manufacturing environments.
