User Experience Designer

As our products grow in complexity, we need a dedicated designer to maintain, scale, and operationalise our design system in Figma. This role ensures our design foundation remains stable, consistent, and implementation-readyreducing design debt, rework, and friction between design and engineering.

This is a highly hands-on execution role focused on refinement, organisation, and maintenance. Most days involve building and maintaining systems, not ideating new concepts. Success is measured by consistency, clarity, and developer trust.

Your work follows a clear cycle: maintain optimise scale communicate.

• Keep components, styles, and libraries clean, consistent, and up to date in Figma.
• Implement safe versioning using branching and merging to prevent rework
• Ensure accessibility and usability standards are embedded in all components

• Organise and optimise large Figma files with clear naming conventions and documentation
• Collaborate with developers to design components that are predictable and efficient to implement
• Leverage advanced Figma features (variables, modes, constraints) to reduce manual work.

• Manage the design system backlog and prioritise improvements
• Maintain a detailed change log documenting all updates and their impact
• Support scaling efforts through automation and third-party documentation tools

• Promote design system best practices across design and product teams
• Ensure adoption by making the system easy to understand and use
• Work closely with senior design leadership to align on principles and direction

You need advanced proficiency in:

• Component creation, variants, and properties for managing states
• Auto-layout and constraints for responsive, scalable designs
• Styles (colour, typography, grids) and variables for design tokens
• Library publishing, version control, branching, and merging
• Dev Mode for optimised developer handoff

You should be able to:

• Structure and maintain large, complex Figma libraries
• Apply consistent naming conventions across hundreds of components
• Document systems clearly so anyone can understand and use them

You understand:

• Basic front-end coding principles, challenges, and limitations
• How to design components that help developers work faster
• The importance of predictable, implementation-ready designs

• Strongly preferred: Prior hands-on experience working with design systems
• Experience working in structured design environments or with component-based design
• Track record of maintaining documentation, backlogs, and version control
