Usability Engineer
Join our SRC team to shape exceptional user experiences for respiratory solutions. As a Systems Engineer, you’ll ensure Philips software and hardware are safe, effective, and meet global usability standards. Key responsibilities include:
Creating usability plans and conducting testing
Applying best practices to improve usability and accessibility
Driving human-centered design from concept to launch
Collaborating with designers, engineers, and stakeholders
Defining user groups and coordinating studies
You’ll lead the user experience track of our innovation program, setting design direction and aligning with Philips design language. Work with a global, multidisciplinary team to translate user insights into impactful solutions.
You are responsible for·
Plan and execute user studies with stakeholders and end-users
Define measurable usability goals and evaluate designs through testing
Develop and manage usability evaluation plans, ensuring compliance with FDA and IEC standards
Conduct expert reviews, heuristic evaluations, and usability analyses
Provide human factors and regulatory consultancy (FDA, EU MDR, Health Canada, etc.)
Lead teams in applying user-centered design principles
Create workflows, information architectures, wireframes, and interactive prototypes
Establish UI standards aligned with Philips design language
Collaborate on design reviews and iterative evaluations
Communicate interaction concepts using sketches, prototypes, and specifications
Identify technology constraints and their impact on usability
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a customer-first attitude and the following
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering; background in Interaction Design, Product Design, or Cognitive Science (HCI focus)
3+ years as a Usability Engineer
Strong knowledge of human factors, interaction design, and usability standards (IEC 62366-1, FDA)
Skilled in usability testing, heuristic evaluations, prototyping, and user-centered design
Experience with medical devices, risk management, and QSR compliance
Proficient in design of experiments, statistical analysis, and Agile development
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
Familiarity with healthcare domain, ergonomics (physical & cognitive), and usability processes
Results-driven mindset
