Job description for Food and Beverage On Job Trainee - Steward

 

A Food and Beverage On Job Trainee - Steward is responsible to assist the senior steward in ensuring that the kitchen and dining areas are clean and well-organized, serving food and beverages to guests, and guests' needs and requests are met promptly and efficiently. On job trainee is responsible for ensuring that all necessary cutlery, crockery, and glassware are available to the guests. It is also expected to learn and follow all health and safety guidelines, including maintaining personal hygiene, ensuring food is stored properly, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Welcome the guests by greeting them as per the standards. Respond to customer queries by resolving issues in a timely and efficient manner to ensure customer satisfaction.

·         Serving food and drinks: assist in serving food and drinks to guests. This includes taking orders, delivering food to tables, and ensuring that guests have everything they need.

·         Learning the facilities of the hotel / casino and the daily events and functions in order to satisfy guest enquiries.

·         Handling guest requests and complaints: handle guest requests and complaints. This includes addressing any issues they may have and providing them with a satisfactory solution.

·         Learning and following safety and hygiene procedures: required to learn and follow safety and hygiene procedures to ensure that the kitchen and dining areas are safe and sanitary for guests and staff.

·         Learning and following company policies: learn and follow the company policies and procedures, including those related to dress code, attendance, and customer service standards.

  • Attend training sessions to learn new skills and improve existing ones.

Qualifications:

  • Min HSSC pass, diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in food service or hospitality may be preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of food service operations, including hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skill with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

 

Throughout training period, on job trainee will be supervised by experienced stewards or captains, who will guide in performing duties effectively and efficiently. Hence performance will be evaluated regularly, and will be provided with feedback and support to help to improve skills and knowledge. Overall, the role of an on-the-job trainee steward in the food and beverage service department is an important one that requires attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
