Role: Manufacturing Engineering - Hardware Test Engineer
Location: IBC, Bangalore
Reporting to: Manufacturing Engineering - Hardware Test Engineering Lead

About the Team and the Role:
The Manufacturing Engineering team is the backbone of Ather’s production excellence, ensuring every vehicle that rolls off the line is built to perfection. As the Hardware Test Engineer, you will be a vital technical driver in our testing ecosystem, responsible for the end-to-end development and validation of Automated Test Equipment (ATE).
This role is centered on ensuring the reliability and performance of our most critical electronic modules—including the Ather Motor Control Unit, Pheriperal Control Unit, Dashboard, BMS & Battery. You will bridge the gap between design and mass production by developing sophisticated test scripts, designing high-precision fixtures (ICT, FCT, FPT), Testers (FCT, EOL, Flashing stations, Test Rigs) and collaborating with internal cross-functional teams and Extrernal suppliers to maintain world-class quality standards. Your expertise will be instrumental in scaling our production capacity while upholding the rigorous "Ather Standard" for hardware integrity.
Responsibilities:
Develop a test case scenario, detailed test specification/test steps, test scripts, test execution and analysis, do defect reporting for the test requirements for MCU, VCU, BMS type of modules.
Define, plan, perform, and evaluate the hardware tests
Select test equipment and work with vendors to build fixtures and tools
Manage the hardware and software configuration of box build assemblies in accordance with Ather standards to ensure smooth testing processes
Work as part of the Integration team to achieve successful integration of box build modules.
Accountable for delivery of the allocated projects including FCTs, ICTs, FPTs as per the need of the program. (Automated Test Equipment - ATE)
Responsible for meeting time, cost and quality targets in assigned projects.
Monitor pass/fail criteria of the testors and ensure they meet the design requirements on the repeatable basis with very good reliability.
Drive tester documentation reviews - BOM, Spares, Equipment CTQs, Process Definition (PFC), Control Plan, EFMEA, FAT Reports of the newly developed Testers.
Bring in thorough knowledge of NRE’s (exp. Equipment, BON Fixtures, Design & Development effort, Wiring etc) required for Equipment building. Also ability to evaluate internal development compared with external partners according to the requirements.
Working with vendors in communicating requirements, reviewing designs and equipment building at vendor places.
Ability to predict/or forecast testing process cycle times and yield to meet the TAKT and OEE requirements
Accountable for PCBA & BoxBuild debug & analysis
Equipment stabilisation and PPAP.
Understanding of vehicle communications software and functions.
Experience and Qualifications:
B.Tech/B.E/M.tech/M.E. or equivalent with Specialization in Electrical / Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Instrumentation & Control
Must have Competencies:
Testing of Embedded Hardware Systems (Touch screen based handheld systems,Battery Management Systems,Power distribution and hardware peripherals control systems)
Test Automation, design of test Jigs and fixtures (incl. BON Fixtures)
Test Plan and Testing Point Coverage
Understanding Gerbers
DFT for Hardware Modules, EFMEA for ATEs
LabView
Familiar with Microcontroller/Microprocessor/DSP Architecture – Registers, Bus, PWM, DMA, watchdog, ADC,DAC, Timers, LED driver ICs etc.
4G, GNSS, WI-FI, BT Wireless Protocols testing
RS232, RS485, SPI, UART, Ethernet, USB,UDS, CAN Communication Protocols testing
MSA, Gage R&R and Calibration practices.
Good to have Competencies:
LabVIEW, Electronic Load, Thermal Chamber, Power Supplies,Current probe, Serial Protocol analyzer,USB analyzer, CAN analyzer,DSO,DMM,Datalogger, Hi-pot tester, LCR meter, Spectrum Analyzer, Logic Analyzer, Function generator, Arduino
5-7 years of relevant experience in hands-on ATE development for Hardware Modules in Automotive / IoT Systems / Portable consumer electronics domain.
