Test Automation Manager Role

The Test Automation Manager is responsible for defining, implementing, and governing the test automation strategy across projects and programs. This role ensures scalable, reliable, and business aligned automation that accelerates delivery while maintaining high quality standards. The manager leads automation teams, selects appropriate tools and frameworks, and collaborates closely with development, business, and DevOps stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Automation Strategy & Governance

Define and own the enterprise test automation strategy aligned with business and delivery goals Establish automation standards, best practices, and guidelines across teams

Identify and prioritize automation candidates based on ROI, risk, and business criticality

Drive shift-left testing through early automation involvement

Framework & Tool Management

Design and maintain scalable test automation frameworks (UI, API, integration, regression)

Own and manage tools such as Tosca, Worksoft, Python, Playwright, RestAssured, etc.

Oversee qTest / ALM integration for test case management, defect tracking, and reporting

Ensure framework supports reusability, maintainability, and version control.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

Lead and mentor test automation engineers and SDETs

Define skill development plans and conduct technical reviews

Ensure adherence to coding standards and review automation deliverables

Support onboarding and knowledge transfer

Execution & Delivery Oversight

Plan and track automation delivery aligned with sprint and release timelines

Monitor execution stability, flaky tests, and automation reliability

Ensure proper test data, environments, and credentials are in place

Handle dependency risks and proactively mitigate automation bottlenecks

CI/CD & DevOps Integration

Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.)

Enable continuous testing with automated triggers and reporting

Define execution schedules for smoke, regression, and pipeline validation

Defect Management & Reporting

Ensure strong linkage between automation results, defects, and requirements

Drive defect triage, alignment, and faster resolution

Provide executive dashboards and metrics such as: Automation coverage , Execution stability ,Defect leakage and cycle time

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with Business, Development, DevOps, and Product teams

Translate business flows into automation ready test scenarios

Support audits, compliance reviews, and release sign offs.

Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills

812 years of experience in Testing, with 5+ years in Test Automation leadership

Strong hands on experience with: o Tosca (preferred) or Selenium/Cypress/Playwright o API automation (REST, SOAP) o Test management tools: qTest, ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps

Experience with SAP, CRM, ERP, or integration-heavy landscapes

Strong understanding of test data management and environment dependencies

Management & Soft Skills

Proven experience leading distributed automation teams

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Ability to drive quality mindset across engineering and business teams

Analytical approach for KPI driven decision making
