Technical Privacy Engineer

The Senior Privacy Counsel will serve as a key legal advisor on data protection and privacy matters with a strong focus on compliance with regards to Digital Personal Data Protection ACT (DPDPA) and IRDAI regulations applicable to insurance sector. This role requires expertise in drafting and negotiating data processing agreements, advising on regulatory obligations and supporting enterprise-wide privacy governance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide legal opinions on data processing activities, cross border transfers and privacy impact assessments.

2. Draft, review and negotiate Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and processor contracts in alignment with DPDPA and IRDAI requirements.

3. Advice on regulatory compliance related to data protection and privacy obligations.

4. Prepare and manage regulatory correspondence with IRDAI and other authorities on privacy related matters.

5. Support litigation and dispute resolution involving data protection issues

6. Develop and maintain privacy policies, procedures and contractual templates to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

7. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Legal, Compliance, Security and Business Units) to embed privacy requirements into operational processes.

8. Monitor regulatory developments in Data Protection and Insurance law; provide timely updates and guidance to leadership.

Required Qualifications:

1. Law Degree with specialization in data protec.

2. Minimum 8 yrs of exp in data and privacy protection law.

3. Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiations particularly DPAs and processor agreements.

4. Strong understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders

6. Familiarity with Privacy -by-Design principles and regulatory frameworks.

7. Experience in policy development, regulatory engagement and litigation support related to privacy matters.

8. Knowledge of data privacy regulations such as GDPR and DPDPA, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and cross functional communication skills.
