Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Technical Manager Storage & Data Management to lead and oversee our enterprise storage tower. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to operational excellence, security, and continuous improvement. The Technical Manager will lead a team of storage engineers and administrators, ensuring high performance, scalability, availability, and data integrity across SAN, NAS, and object storage environments. The role also requires excellent communication skills and the ability to drive architectural direction while promoting a strong
internal culture.
Experience
- 13+ years of overall experience in Storage Engineering, Storage Administration, or similar technical infrastructure roles, especially in IBM Storage.
- Should have strong experience in FCIP Tunnelling, IBM Replication, DWDM and Cisco Switches.
- 5+ years of leadership or team management experience, leading storage or infrastructure teams.
- Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing enterprise SAN, NAS, and object storage solutions.
- Experience working with multi-vendor storage technologies (IBM, NetApp, Dell EMC).
- Demonstrated success in managing large-scale storage environments, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Experience handling vendor management, escalations, and contract coordination.
- Strong background in storage security, DR planning, and data protection strategies.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with:
- IBM Storwize V5000/V7000
- NetApp AFF/FAS, ONTAP
- Dell EMC VNX, Data Domain
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with monitoring tools like IBM Spectrum Control and NetApp Active IQ.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of storage administrators and engineers.
- Ensure effective execution of storage tasks, projects, and operational priorities.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
2. Storage Infrastructure Management
- Oversee daily operations and lifecycle management of enterprise storage systems.
- Ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and stability across all storage platforms (IBM, NetApp, Dell EMC).
- Manage storage provisioning, monitoring, upgrades, patching, and incident resolution.
3. Architecture & Design
- Define and drive enterprise storage architecture and design standards.
- Provide hands-on expertise in:
- IBM Storwize V5000/V7000
- NetApp AFF, FAS, ONTAP
- Dell EMC VNX, Data Domain
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design secure, resilient storage solutions aligned with business needs.
4. Data Protection & Disaster Recovery
- Implement and manage data protection strategies, including backups, snapshots, replication, and DR frameworks.
- Ensure application-aware backup procedures and end-to-end business continuity readiness.
5. Security & Compliance
- Enforce enterprise storage security standards and industry compliance requirements.
- Implement RBAC, encryption, access controls, and SSO integrations.
- Maintain rigorous security-first design principles.
6. Performance & Capacity Planning
- Monitor system performance using tools such as IBM Spectrum Control and NetApp Active IQ.
- Conduct capacity forecasting, trend analysis, and implement optimization strategies.
7. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with storage vendors and partners.
- Lead technology evaluations, handle escalations, and oversee issue resolution.
- Support procurement and contract negotiations.
8. Automation & Process Improvement
- Identify automation opportunities using APIs, scripting, and orchestration tools.
- Enhance operational efficiency through standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Recommend and implement process enhancements to reduce operational overhead.
Qualifications & Technical Skills:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of SAN, NAS, object storage, and SAN fabric infrastructure (Cisco MDS Fibre Channel switches).
Preferred Certifications:
- NCDA (NetApp Certified Data Administrator)
- Dell EMC storage certifications
- IBM storage certifications
