Job Description

As a Technical Manager in the Digital MPC business, you will build, manage and mentor a team of application engineers that use Rockwell Automation's advanced analytics and model predictive control products to create online applications to improve our customer's manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for the technical performance of developed applications and to develop and ensure best practices are used. You will further grow our delivery team in Pune, India and further improve our project delivery model, covering projects in all regions.

You will report to the Data, Business Manager, MPC AP and follow a hybrid working schedule in Pune, India.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Support SC (Solutions Consultant a.k.a. Sales Engineer) market development activities.
  • Review/edit/approve technical components in draft scopes written by SC from template.
  • Develop, nominate and in collaboration with other RTMs approve new application specific scope templates for inclusion in the template library used by SCs. As a team, manage ongoing updates of existing templates for clarity and correctness.
  • Develop and, in collaboration with other RTMs, approve engineering tools for use estimating costs of new applications.
  • Develop and approve engineering estimates (hours, parts, trips, etc.) to match project scopes.
  • Support the PM (Project Manager) project costing process (e.g. discussion of intercompany staff capabilities and relative cost impacts, translation of estimates into the Rockwell PWO project economic spreadsheet form, etc.)
  • Support the Sales project pricing process (e.g. discussion of application value, benefits, etc.)
  • Participate in sales closure activities as requested by the Regional Business Manager.
  • Develop and, in collaboration with other RTMs, approve best practices for use in the development of applications.
  • Ownership of technical project activities (discussions, performance of work, documentation, etc.) including direct engineering of project deliverables as required.
  • Ownership of quality and benefits achieved by applications built for projects (by self or delegated to direct reports.)
  • Identification to PM of technical issues that impact project performance (change orders, etc.)
  • Assist PM in the preparation for monthly financial reviews of projects by providing information related to cost performance against plan, any performance guaranty status, etc.
  • Assist PM in the preparation and performance of stage gate and "lessons learned" reviews.
  • Ownership of staffing technical personnel to projects, subject to Business Manager override, to maximize overall delivery robustness and department margin.
  • Professional development of direct reports so they may be assigned projects to achieve billable targets.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a people management role in a similar environment
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering APC projects to both local as well as global markets / regions
  • 10+ years of experience with Rockwell Automation or model predictive control products
  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in chemical engineering or other engineering with heavy modeling, statistics or process control focus
  • Interest in automation, process control and advanced model-predictive applications
  • Fluent in English: reading, writing and speaking
  • Some manufacturing experience in the process industries
  • Exposure to instrumentation, industrial control systems and supervisory control applications
  • Exposure to advanced process control implementation or business case development
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time, typically 1 or 2 week trips. International projects are likely.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with customer safety & health requirements including submitting to and passing drug tests, safety training, etc.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • 10+ years people management experience in a similar role and environment
  • 2+ years of experience as a process or control engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • An advanced degree in chemical engineering or other engineering with heavy modeling, statistics or process control focus
  • Experience with industrial computing, networking, OPC and ODBC/SQL data communications
  • Experience with DCS and/or PLC configuration, especially in the context of integration with external applications
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or competitive predictive emissions monitoring systems
