Job description - Technical lead

Role Summary:

1. Product & Architecture Leadership

• Technical Roadmap: Partner with the Group Product Manager to turn ambitious ideas (like AI-generated video) into stable, scalable features. Own the end-to-end video lifecycle. Eg: resilient uploads (multipart/tus), server-side transcoding (FFmpeg/Elastic Transcoder), HLS/DASH packaging, and CDN optimization (CloudFront/Akamai) for low-latency playback across varying network conditions.
• System Design: Own the "big picture" architecture. You'll ensure our mobile app, backend, and database talk to each other seamlessly.
• Performance First: Be obsessed with speed. Whether it's how fast a video starts playing or how quickly the app opens, you set the gold standard for user experience.

2. Innovation: Video & AI

• Inference at Scale: Collaborate with AI partners to integrate Generative AI (Prompt-to-Video, Image-to-Video) into the user workflow
• Seamless Streaming: Build a world-class video engine that handles everything from high-quality uploads to smooth, buffer-free playback for a global audience.
• Safety at Scale: Implement smart, automated moderation tools to keep the community safe and high-quality.
• Pipeline Optimization: Build scalable wrappers around AI models to handle heavy inference loads, ensuring that AI-generated captions and moderation filters don't create bottlenecks in the content publishing flow.

3. Scalable Backend & analytical services:

• Design robust systems to manage complex, real-time tasks like social feeds and notifications using a modern, event-driven backend.
• Strategic Data Design: Oversee a diverse database strategy (SQL and NoSQL) to securely manage everything from user profiles to high-volume social activity and content graphs.
• Advanced Search & Discovery: Implement intelligent search and discovery tools to power trending content and hyperlocal feeds, ensuring users are always connected to relevant content.

What we are looking for

• Experience: 810 years in software engineering, with at least 3 years leading teams or projects.
• Mobile & Backend Savvy: You should have a strong grasp of how modern mobile apps (iOS/Android) and cloud-based backends (AWS/GCP) work together.
• Consumer-Scale DNA: Youve worked on products used by large audiences and understand the "growing pains" that come with scale.
• Communication Skills: You can explain complex technical hurdles to non-technical stakeholders without losing the "why" behind the decision
• Video Tech: Familiarity with how video is processed and delivered (streaming protocols, CDNs) is preferred
• Modern Stack: Comfort with languages like Node.js, Go, or Java, and modern mobile frameworks like Flutter or React Native.
• AI Curiosity: You dont need to be an AI researcher, but you should understand how to integrate and scale AI models/APIs into a consumer app
