About the Hiring Function

The Product and Technology team is integral to our organization, driving innovation and the development of print and digital products that enhance reader engagement and operational efficiency. The hiring function within this team is dedicated to attracting and retaining top talent across various roles, including product management, software development, UX/UI design, and data analytics.


About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to lead a POD as part of our newsroom technology transformation, combining deep technical expertise with strong ownership of delivery. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys building, coding, and solving complex problems while guiding a small, cross-functional team through sound technical direction and execution. You will spend a significant portion of your time writing production-quality code, making architectural decisions, and setting engineering standards by example, while collaborating closely with product, design, and editorial stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable newsroom platforms.


Roles & Responsibilities:

Hands-on Engineering

  • Actively design, develop, test, and deploy core features and services.
  • Write high-quality, production-grade code across backend and frontend systems.
  • Take ownership of complex modules, integrations, and performance-critical components.
  • Debug and resolve production issues, including root-cause analysis.


Technical Leadership within the POD

  • Lead technical design and architecture discussions while remaining deeply involved in implementation.
  • Review code, pair-program, and set coding standards through direct contribution.
  • Break down product requirements into well-defined technical tasks and deliverables.
  • Make pragmatic technology choices balancing speed, quality, and scalability.


POD Ownership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Editorial stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Ensure predictable delivery, engineering quality, and operational stability for the POD.
  • Identify and address technical risks, dependencies, and debt early in the development lifecycle.


DevOps & Engineering Excellence

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support frequent, reliable releases.
  • Actively contribute to cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, and observability.
  • Ensure applications meet performance, reliability, and security standards for high-traffic platforms.


Education and Experience Required: -

  • B.Tech in Computer Science or MCA/BCA from a reputed institute.
  • 48 years of strong hands-on software development experience.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience as a senior engineer or hands-on Tech Lead.
  • Deep proficiency in at least one prominent backend programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, Go, etc.)
  • Strong hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js, etc.)
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
  • Solid understanding of databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching strategies, and data modelling.
  • Strong working knowledge of DevOps practices, including:
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Version control systems (Git)
  • Containerization tools (Docker, etc.)
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent) and managing production systems.


Good to Have:

  • Experience working on digital media, publishing, or content-heavy platforms.
  • Exposure to microservices or event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with headless CMS, editorial workflows, or newsroom systems.
  • Understanding of web performance optimisation, SEO, and accessibility best practices.
  • Understanding of Server-Side Rendering (SSR) and Static Site Generation (SSG) for performance.
