Job Description Systems Engineer (Cloud Engineering)
Role Summary
The Systems Engineer Cloud Engineering is responsible for being a staff level counterpart of Cloud engineers to design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure solutions across multiple cloud environments. This role involves driving automation, optimizing Infra environments, ensuring operational excellence, and collaborating with application and architecture teams to enable seamless Project/BAU delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS and Rackspace environments.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
- Administer and support Linux operating systems.
- Perform proactive system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Participate in incident, change, and problem management processes as per ITIL standards.
- Own operational and project deliverables, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including application, network, and security teams.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Cloud Platforms: AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, S3, ELB/ALB, Auto Scaling), Rackspace.
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform.
- Operating Systems: Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, Amazon Linux)
- Monitoring & Observability: CloudWatch and enterprise monitoring tools, like Datadog.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, Load Balancing, VPN, Firewalls).
- Experience with incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Basic scripting knowledge (Shell / Python preferred).
On-Call & Support Expectations
- Participate in on-call rotation for cloud and infrastructure support.
- Respond to critical incidents within defined SLA timelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams and vendors during major incidents.
- Provide planned support during maintenance windows and deployments.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 6 years in Infra/Cloud engineering, with capability to co-ordinate with the team technically and rally the team as and when required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, capable of diagnosing issues across the full technology payloads.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently to identify, design, and implement solutions that improve cloud platforms and engineering practices.
- Brings strong business awareness, balancing technical decisions with product and organizational priorities.
- Solid understanding, Hands on experience of Linux system administration is a Must.
- Hands-on/Extended experience Cloud Infrastructure engineering.
- Deep expertise in AWS cloud services (ECS, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, etc.); Azure experience a plus.
- Proficiency or Working knowledge in IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Knowledge of scripting languages is an added advantage (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Certifications (Preferred): AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Linux Foundation Administration certifications (LFCS, LFCE,LPI), Terraform certification by HashiCorp.
