Job Description

At WisdomWood High (WWH), the Sustainability, Farm Education & Outdoor Learning Lead is the architect of experiential, earth-connected learning. This role ensures that sustainability is not treated as a topic, but lived as a daily learning experience across grades.

Leveraging WisdomWoods hydroponics systems, on-campus farm spaces, and open learning environments, this role designs meaningful outdoor, farm-based, and sustainability-rich learning experiences that foster ecological literacy, responsibility, and systems thinking in students.

The role anchors SDG-aligned education, real-world data-driven learning, and project-based inquiry, making nature, food, and sustainability central to how children understand Math, Science, EVS, and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Farm & Hydroponics Curriculum Design (Grades 18)

  • Design and implement weekly Farm & Hydroponics learning sessions for Grades 1
  • Develop age-appropriate learning progressions covering:
  • Plant life cycles and ecosystems
  • Soil, water, nutrition, and sustainability systems
  • Hydroponics, food security, and future farming methods
  • Ensure lessons are hands-on, observation-driven, and inquiry-based rather than instructional.
  • Align outdoor learning experiences with NEP 2020 experiential learning goals.

2. Sustainability Education & SDG Integration

  • Design a school-wide sustainability curriculum aligned with relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Translate sustainability concepts (climate, consumption, biodiversity, waste) into child-accessible learning.
  • Embed environmental ethics, stewardship, and responsibility into daily student experiences.
  • Support student-led sustainability initiatives and action projects.

3. Outdoor Learning & Nature-Based Pedagogy

  • Plan and facilitate outdoor learning sessions, including:
  • Nature walks and guided observation
  • Sensory learning hours
  • Environmental journaling and sketching
  • Use the campus as a living classroom for exploration, reflection, and curiosity-building.
  • Guide teachers in using outdoor spaces intentionally for learning, not just activity time.

4. Farm Operations, Greenhouse & Systems Management

  • Maintain farm, garden, and hydroponics schedules, including:
  • Crop cycles and planting calendars
  • Harvest planning and rotation
  • Resource usage (water, nutrients, compost)
  • Ensure safety, hygiene, and upkeep of outdoor learning spaces.
  • Work with Admin and Facilities teams to ensure smooth farm operations.

5. Interdisciplinary Integration & Data-Based Learning

  • Collaborate with subject teachers to integrate:
  • Math: measurement, ratios, graphs, yield analysis
  • Science: ecosystems, photosynthesis, energy flows
  • EVS: sustainability, food systems, community impact
  • Use real farm data (growth rates, yields, inputs) as authentic learning material.
  • Support teachers in designing cross-curricular, applied learning tasks.

6. Project-Based Learning & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Progressive Learning & Innovation Lead to design sustainability-focused PBL units.
  • Support inquiry projects that connect sustainability with real-world challenges.
  • Mentor student groups working on eco-projects, green innovations, or exhibitions.

7. Eco-Programs, Events & Community Engagement

  • Help plan and coordinate:
  • Eco-days, Green Weeks, and sustainability drives
  • Recycling, waste segregation, and composting programmes
  • Student-led awareness campaigns
  • Engage students meaningfully in school-wide environmental initiatives.
  • Support documentation and storytelling of sustainability impact across the campus.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Sustainability, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 0-1 years of experience in sustainability education, environmental projects, farming, hydroponics, or outdoor learning environments.

Preferred Background:

  • Experience working in schools, learning farms, environmental NGOs, or experiential education programmes.
  • Familiarity with SDG-focused education and nature-based pedagogy.

Expertise Required

  • Strong understanding of sustainability concepts, food systems, and ecological cycles
  • Ability to translate complex environmental ideas into age-appropriate learning experiences
  • Hands-on experience with farming, gardening, or hydroponics systems
  • Comfort working outdoors with students across age groups

Digital Fluency

  • Comfortable using Google Workspace for planning, documentation, and learning records.
  • Ability to document learning through visuals, observations, and simple data tracking.
