Staff Software Engineer - 3rd Party Integrations

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer on the 3rd Party Integrations team, you will lead the design, development, and enhancement of Flexera's integrations with leading enterprise platforms including ServiceNow CMDB, Atlassian (Jira Service Management), and BMC solutions (Helix/Remedy). You'll drive technical strategy, mentor engineers, and architect robust, scalable integration solutions that enable seamless data flow and interoperability between Flexera's platform and our customers' critical IT management systems. This is a senior technical leadership role offering the opportunity to shape integration architecture and make a significant impact on enterprise-grade solutions used by organizations globally.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of enterprise-grade integrations with ServiceNow CMDB, Atlassian Jira Service Management, and BMC Helix/Remedy platforms, including both Flexera-side integration services and client-side components within 3rd party CMDB systems (scripts, workflows, custom applications, and data ingress mechanisms).

  • Drive technical strategy and roadmap for the 3rd party integrations platform, making key architectural decisions that impact scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Mentor and guide senior and mid-level engineers, providing technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.

  • Architect and implement scalable, reliable integration solutions across distributed systems in an agile environment.

  • Lead complex integration initiatives from conception through delivery, breaking down requirements, creating comprehensive technical design documentation, and ensuring successful implementation.

  • Design and implement APIs, event-driven architectures, integration middleware, and orchestration services to enable bidirectional data synchronization.

  • Establish testing standards and oversee comprehensive test strategies across integrated platforms, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end validation with CMDB/ITSM systems.

  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and lead design reviews to validate and evolve integration approaches.

  • Optimize integration performance, security, error handling, and observability mechanisms at scale.

  • Engage directly with key customers, product managers, and stakeholders to understand integration use cases, gather requirements, and provide expert technical guidance.

  • Contribute to and drive the development of shared documentation, integration guides, best practices, and knowledge bases to support internal teams and customers.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in enterprise integrations and CMDB/ITSM platforms.

What You'll Bring

Essential Skills

  • 8+ years of experience developing end-to-end platform integrations for enterprise solutions, with proven track record of leading complex integration projects.

  • Deep expertise in object-oriented or functional programming languages (Go, Python or JavaScript/Node.js).

  • Strong command of API design, implementation, and consumption, including API versioning and backwards compatibility strategies.

  • Extensive experience with API authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth 2.0, API keys, JWT tokens, SAML).

  • Expert knowledge of data transformation, mapping, and ETL processes at scale.

  • Proven experience architecting and implementing integration solutions, including testing strategies across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels with CMDB/ITSM platforms.

  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar) and infrastructure as code.

  • Deep understanding of software architecture patterns, particularly for integration, microservices, and distributed systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills for complex, multi-system integration issues.

  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proven technical leadership abilities with experience mentoring engineers and driving technical initiatives.

  • Strong ownership mindset with exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and leading technical aspects of agile teams.

Desirable Skills

CMDB/ITSM Platform Expertise:

  • Strong hands-on experience with at least one (preferably multiple) of: ServiceNow (CMDB, ITSM), Atlassian Jira Service Management, or BMC Helix/Remedy.

  • ServiceNow development experience:

    • Scripted REST APIs, Integration Hub, Flow Designer

    • Business Rules, UI Actions, Script Includes

    • ServiceNow Store Integration Applications

    • Update Sets and application deployment

    • Performance optimization for ServiceNow integrations

  • Atlassian platform development:

    • JSM Cloud APIs and Jira REST API

    • Forge apps and Connect apps

    • ScriptRunner for Jira

    • Atlassian Marketplace app development

    • Jira automation and workflow customization

  • BMC Helix/Remedy experience:

    • AR System APIs and architecture

    • Mid Tier development

    • REST API and web services

    • Remedy workflow and filter development

    • CMDB reconciliation and federation

  • Knowledge of CMDB/ITSM platform data models, CI/issue relationships, and data flows

  • Experience with CMDB data federation and reconciliation patterns

  • Relevant CMDB platform certifications (ServiceNow Certified Application Developer, Atlassian certifications, BMC certifications)

Technologies & Tools:

  • Advanced proficiency with Go, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures

  • SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Databricks)

  • Data modeling and schema design for complex integration scenarios

  • Experience with data synchronization patterns and conflict resolution

  • Knowledge of data versioning and temporal data models

Testing & Quality Assurance:

  • Advanced experience with testing frameworks for CMDB integration testing (JUnit, pytest, Jest, etc.)

  • Test automation frameworks and continuous testing practices

  • Experience with mock services, service virtualization, and test data management

  • Performance and load testing for integration endpoints

  • Contract testing and API contract management

Additional Experience:

  • Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data modeling, federation, and reconciliation

  • IT Asset Management (ITAM) or IT Service Management (ITSM) domain knowledge

  • ITIL framework understanding

  • Security best practices for enterprise integrations (encryption, secrets management, compliance)

  • Technical writing and documentation skills for API documentation and integration guides
